So, same story that’s been told a hundred times. Old head found during a barn cleanup. Only had half of a haft stuck in it, long vertical split.
Marked True Temper Flint Edge and No TB4F on the reverse side. From what I gather this is a hewing hatchet, now I don’t plan on hewing any logs anytime soon. Unless you convince me otherwise I plan to rehang it and use it to split cypress kindling.
Any haft recommendations? Brand-Length?

I’ll get some weights and measurements later this morning.

Looks great! Just be sure to maintain the single bevel.

These hatchets are designed for doing "heavy whittling" upon a stump or high chopping block. Great for making wooden stakes and such. Should do fine making cypress kindling.

These typically had a straight handle.
