I metal detect quite a bit and when I lived in the north I'd find old axe heads. Well the warden and I went up to visit some folk, so I swung the detector over a spot were I found a single and double bit axe head close together years ago. This was a wild shot with limited time today. But bing I found a third head within feet of were the other two were buried, several years ago. This was a serious lumbering community from the 1880's to about the first world war. And I found a lot of heads, but left them on site for whoever wanted them. Now I am interested and I am currently (pun intended) zapping this head with electrolysis. I hope that I can find some type of maker mark. When I stop and think of all the heads that I tossed..........

Curious that seemingly good axe heads would be lost or abandoned at a single location! If it turns out they are flawed somehow (temper is gone/head is cracked etc) then it is easier to understand. Good luck with cleaning up your finds.
