While on duty today taking some additional info. at the site of a accident that occurred several days ago what do I see lying on the ground in the weeds but a perfect leaf spring from a Ford minivan. I could just see the khukuri straining to get out.
My father in law the knifesmith bought a forge recently and is dying to play with it. Who knows how long it will take him but I have the perfect project for him! He's even done some research into differential tempering. (although my crude description of how I understand the kamis do it had him a bit mystified) If anything ever comes of this I'll let you know.
Uncle Bill, a comprehensive listing of what is available to us would be wonderful! I know I'll be buying more khukuris after settlement on my house. (of course I will be poor and will have to limit myself far more than I would otherwise like)

Mike, I'm not sure how much it will help but if the father-in-law will take a look at Nara making the khukuri he may bet some ideas. The critical part will be the hardening. If he uses water like Nara tell him to pour slowly and keep the stream moving up and down the blade -- lengthwise.

If he has success send a pix of results! We would all enjoy it.

Uncle Bill

Hey Mike, instead of a minivan spring, get one of those gigantic leaf springs off a semi tractor, like, say, a Mack truck, then your father-in-law can forge the piece into "Mack the knife". HEHEHEHE

(You may now groan)
