Found a little friend today

I was practicing making a small one stick fire today in my backyard and I was doing my first batonning through the designated stick and when it cracked open I found this little dude:

Some kind of wood worm. I've found them before, anyone know exactly what it's name is? Sure was delicious whatever it's called (j/k )

A guess ... the larvae of a wood boring beetle. What specific kind of wood boring beetle? I do not know. I've never heard of people eating them, but I only believe anything I read on the internet.
