Found a memory at the antique store

My wife and I stopped in at a local antique mall yesterday to do a bit of snooping around. I had taken the day off work, so we just bombed around and looked for things to do. After perusing the usual collection of old rusty Chinese knives and over-priced bayonets, I saw something gleaming in a display case that absolutely screamed my name. I checked out with an absolutely like-new Western S-901 Scout knife. I remember as a little kid going with my dad to the local hardware store and gazing into their knife display case. This store carried Western, Case, and a couple odd Bucks, that's it. I always like the looks of the Western's the best (probably because they were on the lower shelves where I could see better).

I was able to grab this baby for $22 out the door, and from what I can tell, it's never been carried or sharpened. It really doesn't even look like it was ever used at all! No marks whatsoever on the blade or screwdriver, etc. I know it isn't super desirable or collectible, but I will never be able to pass up a nice Western. My first fixed blade knife ever was a Western W75 boot knife that I still have today.

I think this find made my month!

Fantastic grab! It's great when thing s like that happen. Good looking jigging too.

Thanks for all the compliments, guys! I'm currently trying to dig up some more info on it. I think it is a 1980 model, based on the "D" tang stamp, but I might be off. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Nice find, its the memories that make it. Collectible or not.

Great find, nice long pull. That was a super deal at $22. Most of the knives I see at antique malls are overused and way overpriced.

Nice to see that good bargains are still out there.

That looks like a great find to me and for only $22. Great pattern from a gone but not forgotten American company. I like it.

Great looking knife. Is that real bone on the handle?

Great grab either way!
