For the last several years, I have used and admired the Victorinox Alos Pioneer Solo. I love its simplicity, and I consider its snap to be my judging standard for non-half stop slipjoints. However, since I am mostly a fan of jacks and pens, what I really wanted was Pioneer Settler - a Solo with a pen blade. However, the Settler has been hard to find due it being discontinued. Sure, I cold have found one with a pruning or electrician's blade as a secondary, but I wanted the pen.

Over the last couple years, I would check the auction site or google for it every once in a while, but to no avail. Until today! I found a business out in CA that has several in stock. I don't know how I didn't see it before, unless maybe they didn't have them online or they got in some stash of discontinued models. I don't know; all I know is that I have one inbound now. :)

Ive been on the search for a similar one too, i hate how they discontinue such popular and sought after models! Maybe you could pm me with the guys name?

Thanks!

I'd like to, but it looks like you can't do PMs. My email isn't really a secret, so email me at blainewperdueATyahooDOTcom (ha ha, spambots! Take that!) and we can talk.

Wow I will be working in the same town tomorrow. Don't buy them all out before I get there guys!!

Nice. My Soldier recently found my pocket again, and I think that for the money, the Vic Alox knives offer near-custom springs, fit and finish. Congrats!

Congratulations on the find!!! It feels good when you come across something you've look for a long time.

I didn't even know that knife existed. Nice find, Blaine. I search for an Alox Woodsman with similar hope.

Congrats on finding your mini grail knife Blaine:thumbup:

Now the question begs to be asked, what is your primero uno grail knife?

I'm still trying to figure out if Ill ever have a grail knife ;)

Nice one Blaine.

Simple and cheap, but an undeniable and consistent workhorse, no doubt.

I agree that the Vic/Wen action and snap is a real benchmark.....its pretty much the SI unit of measure for me.

Congratz on that nice finde, Blaine.

But maybe there will be hope getting these knives produced once more. I´ve read in a german knife magazine, that Wenger will stop production at the end of 2013. Some Wenger patterns will be made by Victorinox in future. Maybe they´ll put some of their discontinued back into regular production again... I´m just speculating... but there´s still hope.

From that page: "...Victorinox knives will also be made in Delémont and all employees will keep their jobs."

That is one thing I have greatly admired about Victorinox. They have always seemed to try very hard to make sure their people are treated well.

100% agreed - Blaine

I think the "real" Wenger become pretty collectable now...

Good deal! I've only recently discovered Victorinox. I always knew about them, but they never caught my fancy. I got a couple and one in particular finds its way into my pocket more often than anything else. They tend to be very consistent with great fit and finish.

Beautful knife, Blaine! Thanks for sharing - nicely simplicism and a for sure a well made construction, typical Vic... ;)

It´s great that you found one of your grail knives!
