i was pretty happy with that find,

unfortunately now that i have calmed down abit i hope that it doesnt have nail buster springs amd i hope the stag looks at least kinda like the picture. I saw it and got really excited and ordered it, unfortunately i've heard alot of horror stories about stag handles that are uneven or just dont look very good by people who ordor online....

but its ordered, all i can do is wait and see how it looks when it gets here
(guess i should have specified that the pic i posted was the online pic, not the actual knife)

Let us know what you think of it and post some pics when it arrives. The sample pic looks great - hope yours turns out well!

The stag looks great and the long pull is what I like. Hope the knife will meet you expectation, I know this feeling....the expectation:)

meh
got a call this morning from the company i ordered from, they said they no longer sell this and that my card wasnt charged
if i would like to purchase something else blah blah

that was disappointing

well, i have some good news
although the store i originally ordered from is out of stock, i found the exact same model on ebay (for $5 cheaper hehe)

so i should still be getting it ...back to anticipating hehe

I got one a few mths ago after seeing one here. I think you'll be please with the springs; mine is firm but not difficult to open at all. Stag scale match wasn't that great, but then I got mine for a real good price, so no complaints. Main blade just barely kisses the liner in the closed position, but still no big deal.

ok so question for folks....

this would be my first stag handled knife. So my curious if there are any special precautions for caring for stag?
i dont imagine so, maybe a light oiling from time to time, but it cant hurt to ask.

thanks in advance

ok so my new boker barlow arrived today.
initial impressions are that it seemed ALOT smaller than the rough rider barlow (actually its not, but its lighter) and the stag isnt as nice, but ...

but anyways, i was asked to provide pics so here we go (hope thats enough for folks hehe)

here is a comparison of the rough rider and the boker

and a couple pics of the stag scales

see how thin it is here, not sure what i think about it yet

I find the stag all right, it's better than having bloated stag that looks like a snake that's swallowed a cat! I have a CASE Mini Copperlock with that look.....It will wear and colour nicely too.

Thanks for the pics & comments, Rsmith! I think the stag has nice character overall, but I can see where the thinness in that spot would be of concern. Still, for the price, it's a pretty darn nice knife! Thanks again for posting!

well, got a patina started
let it sit in a potato for like 6 hours and then cut up a bunch of pineapple for the wife and i, and i have just finished cleaning it with dawn and hot water and oiling it a bit with mineral oil...

will carry this as my edc for the (forseeable?) future, I am sure it will be fine..

hrmm

after getting the new barlow all cleaned up and oiled and patina started
i notice that both blades have some side to side play. I dont think its going to affect its use any, but i cant help being a little disappointed

but i will use it and see what happens, besides it IS sharp as hell hehe

after sitting here for awhile i have decided that i am disappointed in the knife and will contact Boker in the morning to see about sending it back under warranty.

both blades have significant side to side blade play, in addition i want to see if they cannot match the scales to each other. Hopefully they will agree that these are in fact warranty issues, but i will see what they say when i call tomorrow morning.

this is another first for me (sending a knife back) so here's hoping it all goes well

(its ironic, i thought the large barlow bolster would keep things nice and tight but its just too much room in the liners and the blades move around quite a bit)

well, i talked with the Boker Repair guy (didnt catch his name)
he said that some tolerance for side to side play had to be accepted but to go ahead and send it in and let him take a look
he said that the stag scales is just...natural materials...so probably just have to accept it, but hopefully when he sees it he will agree with me that perhaps something could be done

so i sent the knife to boker this morning...they should have it next wednesday...
now i just wait and see what happens i guess

So Boker finally called me back, they received the barlow and checked it out
so apparently the scale is ...well it is what it is

they agree that the blade play is beyond parameters, however they have no way to repair it in the states, so my choices were

1) have them send it back and "make do"
2) have them send it to Germany for repair, but that could take 3-6 months due to customs and all that jazz
3) have them send me a purchase order for the MSRP and a boker catalogue

i went with choice 3, since the barlow is out of stock and cannot be traded out, i will probably get something else, ah well, at least they worked at making me (the customer) happy and i appreciate that :p
