Hi. I recently found your web site. I am a bladesmith from Turkey. Recently i have ordered an unusual steel from Germany. It is sometimes called Silversteel. The "DIN" norm of the steel is 1.2210 (115CrV3). Alloy consists of: 1.18 C, 0.25 Si, 0.30 Mn, 0.7 Cr, 0.10 V. It is priced 4.5 euros per kilo. I tried and its first expression is it has extraordinary performance for long blades and swords (extreme tough and fine edge holding) . Does anyone know anything or has any opinion about that steel, cause i am intending to use it extesively.

I need opinions a.s.a.p. for i'm willing to use this steel for some of my customers' recent orders. I plan to use it for a sabre and a bowie...

I always suspect it when they say things like "extraordinary" performance. The carbon content is high for 'extreme toughness' though proper tempering will help there. You should experiment with it before you use it extensively.Shoulsd make a good blade.

Yes,

i think you are right & thanks. The toughness is not satisfactory for swords after all. I posted the thread in the excitement of the arrival of steel. Te stain resistance won't be good for knives i presume. So where can i use it? Carpenter tools, chisels will be ok i guess.

Carpenter tools ?Yes , but also knives for those who don't care for stainless steel.
