Found a nice 110 Hunter

I must of been living right Sunday. It was about 105 degrees outside, I stopped into an old flea market that didnt' have air conditioning and it felt about 150 degrees in there. I didn't want to stay long so I just kind of went through fast, planning on going back when it was colder and I spotted a 110 Hunter in a glass case for $12.
I wasn't expecting much at that price and tarnished up, and figured the blade would be worn down to a nub. I was surprised when I opened it up and the blade is probably 95-100 % there. Looks like it hasn't been sharpened too much. The Brass had a bad green spot on it, but hardly any scratches. I haven't had time to narrow down exactly what it is and I'm pretty new at collecting Bucks, but the best I can figure is that it is a 1967-1972.

Here are some before and after pics. I washed out the inside and dropped some oil in it and scrubbed it down with brasso. The wood in the after pics looks a little darker because it was still wet with brasso and oil, and it's starting to lighten back some. This thing would probably look like new with a spa treatment.

The knife has to be a Third Version, Variation 9. That (according to the data from Joe) is the only version/variation with the two line stamp on the right side. Joe's data says its from '68-'70 and another data chart from a respected student of the 110 narrows that down to '69. Either way, '69 is probably as accurate a date as you can come up with.

"Variation 9 (1968-1970)14
Stamp: BUCK, u.s.a., Inverted, Right hand, 440C steel.
Blade/Butt rivets: Visible on both sides of bolsters, 2 rear, 1 front.
Inlay rivets: 2 (tiny)
Rocker rivet: Brass, maybe headed.
Sheath: Leather, black. B or C.
Packaging: 2 piece yellow box about 2” high-(1), Use and Care leaflet undated-(1), “Attention” leaflet orange-(1), **"

Good eye....I missed the right hand tang stamp. Too busy looking at the rivet. :)

Thanks for the information Plumberdv, and Stumps. 1969 would be perfect, since that is the year I was born.
Mine doesn't appear to have a spacer, if that helps.
Stumps, what did you use to bring out the finish on the scales? I'd tried pledge before on an old 112 ranger and it didn't seem to help much. This one, I just rubbed some 3 in 1 oil on it when I oiled it up. It seems to work pretty good, but the wood looks darker for a couple of days. I didn't know if this would harm it?
As to value, I don't plan on selling it, but what is a ballpark worth since I might EDC her?
I did wear it in the sheath today, but didn't know if this is one is better sitting on the dresser since I have a brand new 110.
Thought about carrying her in a sheath as an edc, since I am pretty easy on a knife except during hunting season. The only reason I usually have for carrying a knife would be for self defense and I've never actually needed one for that.
Might just carry it everyday and baby it, and when I need to clean a deer or fish, break out the new one.

I hand sanded the scales, then shined them up on my buffer.

In my area, you just never see a 110's and 112 at a flea market. Since January of this year, I've found a 1988 bucklite, a 1974-1980 Ranger and then this 110.
But I've been to alot of flea markets since January and these were the only Hunter/Ranger/Bucklites that I have even come across and I've bought all 3. My kids play basketball and softball so when they have a game out of town, that is when I'm usually able to hit an out of area flea market.

Do you have the original sheath?

I'm thinking that knives like that seem to go for $75 to $100 these days on e-Bay......I happen to think that's low, because you don't see the right hand stamp very often. They can go for more with a couple of determined bidders.

Unless you are really rough on your EDCs.......you won't change it by carrying it every day in a sheath.

Thanks.
No it didn't come with an original sheath. I have a new 110 and i'll put it in there for now.
That will give me something else to look for.

Proper sheath is slightly slimmer and has the 110 stamp above the belt loop instead of below.

Good luck.

:)

The sheath on the left in these pictures is the one you need for your 110.
