Nothing special, it has more sentimental value than any monetary. This was a gift from my father to me when I was eight or nine, it was the first locking knife I owned and I thought it was large at the time. Until this knife I owned a Kamp King and Case 6201 pen knife.
I found it in a box of junk yesterday and pulled it out, to my amazement it was still in good condition, it survived all the abuse a kid would put a knife through, the edge was maintained and no play, handle was white when it was gifted, now more orange from hand and age. I gave it a few passes on a stone a little mineral oil & I'm carrying it today. I have tons of memories of running around in the woods, camping, fishing, making spears etc. I carried it for many years, paired with my Swiss when I got older.
National Blade, a little search seems to be Parker out of N.J. Import from Japan.
6A Quality Steel, is another way of saying AUS-6A, I will say it took a fantastic hair shaving edge.

Here it is......

I haven't decided if I should polish the brass or leave it.

Fantastic! That's a real treasure! I still have the very first knife I was ever given as a kid. It's nowhere near as nice as yours, just an el-cheapo Imperial Barlow we needed for Cub Scouts. Even though I badly mistreated that knife, it is still in perfect working order, with a very nice patina on the blades. I hope someday to hand that knife down to my son. Although I plan on giving him something a bit nicer first. I don't want him to think of my as a skinflint whenever he thinks of his first knife. My Dad cheaped out on mine. ;)

Hey, I never found my old SAK from childhood, so it's great that you did find your first knife. It looks cool, too.

Neat knife Pete, congrats on finding it, I still have my first childhood knife. If it were my knife I'd just throw it in my pocket without polishing, the brass will soon start taking on a nice dull glow rather than that polished look.

Best regards

Robin

Thanks guys, like most my very first knife was the Kamp King that I still have, got it for my sixth birthday with my first fishing rod.

These stories remind me when I was 10 or 11 my parents gave me a multi-blade scout knife, I had it about a week and at a family picnic in a state park in Ky. I lost it, man I was sick, I looked for hours but never found it. I think thats why I cant help but scan the ground when ever I am walking somewhere.

Thanks for sharing this story. I really enjoy this kind of stories :)

Great you got it back!

What a neat knife. I love the scales, and the size and drop point blade are just right.

I imagine the memories are the best part of all.
