I figure it's designed to go in a pocket, and I have plenty lying around. Got a few pieces of fatwood, some jute, and a PJCB. I just need to find a small ferro rod :)

So do any of you guys have a small kit to carry on a regular basis?

I wonder if something like a Kiwi shoe polish tin could work as well.... I have a couple of those laying around.... Good thinking!!!

Yeah, I'm going to have to be on the lookout for an all metal dip tin. Although I'm sure the plastic one will work fine, and when it goes out I'll have another one ready.

This is actually what a good friend of mine does with his spent dip cans. Great minds think alike!! The Camel Snuss tins would probably work since they are all metal.
A horrible habit of my own is awesome for fires and my kit too. Since I smoke, I can use my cigarettes to transport an ember or put it in a tinder bundle to start a fire.

As for a small firesteel, check out knivesshipfree(dot)com; They have all different sizes or firesteels and ferro rods. Hope that helps!

I used to use altoids tins and ignored how they weren't waterproof at the hinges until it bit me in the ass. I grabbed a couple of round dip cans from a buddy because they seem really airtight.

One has a mix of woodshavings and dryer lint for firestarter, the other a mix of salt, pepper and herbs mixed in together. Fumbling around in the dark I have been known to mix the two up....

I'm planning to pick up a few of these next time I place an order. They range in cost from $0.85 to $1.20 depending on size.
