I found this PW anvil and decided to get it. What do you guys think? Been looking for over 6 months and ended up getting this one out of North Carolina. Good excuse for a family road trip. :)

It is marked at 207 sw, which I calculate out to 231 lbs. Its a heavy sucker, just ask my back. Anyway, I ended up getting it for about $2.70/lbs which didn't seem too bad to me. I am pleased. I know its a little beat up and needs some love, but its way better than what I was finding around here. Rebound on it is excellent and I already built another stand for it and mounted it with silicone. I just haven't snapped any other pics yet. I cleaned it up a little with a wire wheel and applied BLO to it afterward.

I would like to thank all of you who provided much needed info in your posts and answers to my questions.

Gorgeous Find!!! Anything weighing >#200 in the south is a gem be it we didn't have the industrial infrastructure the north states had...

There's something about these majestic creatures. Strange as it may seem I enjoy inspecting every little mark on forged and cast anvils; marks proud or sunk into the surface, deliberate or accidental, each stamp, punchmark, touchmark, chisel dings, dips, sways, dressing of previous smiths, errant misses, casting seams, forged seams, globular pour marks where the last bit of molten metal solidifies... If you haven't done so already, take a few minutes and cherish those qualities. As there may be similar anvils out there, but yours is unique... They speak in different pitches, are livelier in different areas of the face, each one lived under a different roof, under different hammers swung by different hands... The differences may be subtle and the details a little "over the top" for some to notice, but if you look, they will show, if you listen' they will sing, if you work them, they will ask for more...

Congrats man... She's beautiful.

Excellent piece!

A good anvil is a good investment and you'll never lose your money on one. Yours appears to be in great condition with a nice face and good edges. I wouldn't do anything to it other than mount it to a solid base and start forging. You'll find that the slight sway in the face is actually beneficial for straightening.

Great anvil! I have forged on several PW's, my current shop anvil is one, and I love it. That one looks to be in fine shape really, and a good size too.
Happy forging to you, congratulations!
