My Grandmother was born in 1907 in the same house that still stands by my house. My family has been on the same land since the Civil War and my Great Great Grandfather was killed at Vicksburg fighting for the South. My Grand mother died in 1994 and no one has lived in the house since. We keep it up and use it as storage but I was inside of it the other day and just looking through my family history and I went outside to the Old Barn and guess what I found stuck between the boards that make up a wall. I found and Old Hickory Butchers knife all rusted and the handle was cracked but with a little work it will be back in great condition. It has no pitting or anything , just surface rust. I was so excited to find that. There aint no telling how old that knife is or who used it last. I just wanted to tell yall.

Coolness. A knife with family history is the best find of all, especially when no one knew about...

thx - cpr

It's great to find old stuff, especially knives, that have some family history attached. My family have been in Oz since the First Fleet and there are a number of interesting items floating around amongst the family.

I think I know how pleased you might have been to find this.

You can find interesting stuff. The house I'm in now had a few things of interest when my family bought it. A coffee grinder that mounts on the wall .I had never seen one of those before. A copper tank from a still ! That's now a lamp.

When my wife and I were married, we moved into her Grandfathers mothers house that was built around 1860. Her great grandmother died and they just shut the house up for 30 yrs just the way it was the day she died. We moved in and it had a fire place in every room and I was working on a fire place one day and I found and Old jar full of coins, all dated from 1870 to 1955 and I still have those coins. I also found and old Bayonet wrapped in a towel that was rotten. I gave it to my uncle. I wish I hadnt now.

Nice find, discovering an old knife is always great. Just a few months ago I discovered a great knife in a house we just bought. The previous owners were japanese and had lived there for 3 generations. A bit of research showed that I had found a ka-bar commando, a cousin of the USMC fighting knife, and it was only produced during WW2.

Wow, Now that is cool 5370H55V. There isnt any telling whats in the ground around that old house of my families.
