As others have discovered and reported, American made Schrades can still be found on retailers' shelves occasionally. While on vacation up on the St. Lawrence I came across a very nice marine/sporting goods store with a couple Schrades in the display case. Now they have one less.
I picked up a SW7S Switch-It NIB w/papers. I've learned that this particular model is not well thought of by many but so far I am happy with it. Although in profile it resembles some of the popular arachnid folders, the remainder of the design is nice. Being a lefty, I particularly like the ambidexterous feature. I still have not figured out a machined indent in the spine approximately 1/3 of the way down the backspring. The handle is sculpted in the same spot as well. Any ideas?
Back to the store. The only other US Schrade I saw was a SP1(?) mini-lockback. I probably should have grabbed it as well but... For whatever reason, it just didn't tickle my fancy.
Oh well, decent vacation made better by unexpected finds.
