really trying to post a pic of an axe head I found to get some feedback on. Tried numerous methods to post a pic and they all come back Image cannot be posted from the passed link. and yes, that is what it says. Pasted? Can anyone help? just trying to get some feedback on an old family related axe head I dug up in the dirt around my grandfathers house.

Given the dollar bill for reference, that's much more of a hatchet head, I think.

Really like the shape, and can't comment on whether it was modified from something larger.

It certainly doesn't look like iron/steel that's been in the ground for ~65 years. Did you clean it/blue it?

Might help if you posted the dimensions.

Regards,
Joe

Yes, I did clean it up on a wire wheel. I have ordered a handle for it. The eye is 2 1/4 x 3/4 so it would not take a lot of smaller sized handles. Pretty much had to get a smaller handle for a full size axe head. I just want to restore it as it seems to me to be a family heirloom.

It looks to me like someone modified a Hudson bay pattern hatchet.
Maybe a Collins or Norlund Voyager head.

That's just what I see
Yes, thats the type I was thinking. But I think there are saw marks on it, so I am kinda thinking someone modified it, but I wonder for what purpose...

Yeah, looks like it was modified from a Hudson bay pattern hatchet head.
My only thought was to maybe make it look more like a tomahawk.

Please show the finished product when you're done. I'll bet it will look great.

here is what I did. some say the head should be turned over. It is a puzzle as to which way is up, and although this looks strange, the blade lines up better this way. I welcome feedback....axe .....I guess you will have to click on the axe link.
