Hi all,

In addition to a sweeet old LEGITIMUS Collins & Co. No. 823 (Bolo ?) Machete and an older Sabatier FRANCE 64 (marked) little fixed blade knife, I found five Axes/Hatchets today of somewhat rather obscure makes. I think my best find today was a vintage Snow & Nealley (Bangor Maine) 1 3/4 pound Hudson Bay Axe head in rather good condition save a little bit of Mushrooming but otherwise in very nice shape. I also found a NOS Hickory (Boys Axe size) Handle at this same "Garage Sale" which I think would fit this HB Axe head. Next find was a nice older BIG three plus pound PLUMB Axe head. Later found a kind of rare
(so I've heard) MANN EDGE TOOL CO. Lewistown PA USA Axe. This Axe had more damn nails/screws/wedges that I have ever seen in an axe handle. It may be some time before I can get this Axe head off the busted up handle. The MANN is in decent condition. I then found a "made in England" GREAT NECK 3/4 pound Axe. I can't figure out what that "funky" Animal Logo (in the circle) is suppose to be!
Last but not least is a rescue condition mini Marbles Safty Hatchet. The slabs are missing, the safty thingy is rusted and frozen (at least for the time being) and the Hatchet is very rusty. That being said, I think it'll clean up nicely. The blade looks to be in excellent condition. I don't know if I will be able to UN-free the safty bar from the handle. I have the Hatchet wrapped in Newspaper after having soaked the entire Hatchet with WD40 (the first of many steps to rescue this Hatchet). That's about it for today. Oooh, almost forgot.....I picked up a BANKOLIAR (Igelfors Bruks) "made in Sweden" Scythe blade in nice shape!
On the whole, I had a good day pickin.

Mann Edge Tool used to make a million axes a year plus. So they are pretty common but still good quality axes IMO. Probably my favorite line. Or Warren. Or Collins. Or Kelly. Hell I like em all.....

Hi guys,

Hal, yea, I'm on a roll but, I running out of "toy" money! Since yesterday (Saturday) I ventured out again early this morning. I found two more Axes/hatchets. One Axe is older but in pretty good shape (save the rust). I just researched this Axe and is (according to Tools of Yesteryear) a "Made in Mexico" STANLEY Axe.
M STANLEY M (is how it's marked). Oooh well, it cost me less than three dollars for this Axe AND, that three dollar price included a brand new NOS "American Made" (from IN) Hickory Handle! Man, this is the second day in a row I have found NOS Hickory handles for Pennies so, I'm not going to complain about this STANLEY being made in Mexico (if that's where it's truly made). My second find cost me a few dollars more but, I couldn't resist a overall nice condition (Made in Sweden) HB (Hults Bruk) Hatchet with a 15" handle. The handle is wrapped up good with Electrical Tape so, I suspect the handle is cracked. The Hatchet head looks beautiful. I don't quite understand the numbers on one side : 06 (year made ?) with a line underneath the 06 and the number 1 with a / followed by some very tiny figures I can not read. I suspect this is the Hatchet's weight. It looks to be ONE pound. Wow, seven Axes/Hatchets in one weekend. Not too bad. Oooh, I started cleaning up the (rescue) vintage Mini Marbles Safty Hatchet and I got the snap out saftey Blade cover working! I still have to see about replacing the slabs on the full tang metal handle in the future. I think this lil' Hatchet is going to clean up nicely! I also managed to get at least a DOZEN nails/screws/wedges out of the Mann Hatchet. Dear God, I wish I had the proper tools to do such a job. It took me over two days of chipping and banging away to get that Crap out of the Eye hole.
Op, this is the first time I've ever seen (or heard) of a MANN Edge Tool Co. Axe. It's a first for me. Also the GREAT NECK
(made in England) is my first GN. I'm really liking the S&N Hudson Bay Axe head. Funny, I was just saying I'd like to own a Hudson Bay Axe in a different thread and I find one this weekend. I think 1 3/4 pounds (to perhaps two pounds) is the perfect weight to carry when one doesn't want to carry TOO much Axe. I wouldn't want to carry that new (to me) three pound (+) PLUMB I bought yesterday. Op, I'm with you, I like em all!

Regards,
HARDBALL

Great finds, make a great collection. Love to see photos of them. I'll better start going to garage sales more often.
