Found in a pawn shop, now confused

I'm always scrounging the local pawn shops in search of a buck knife, most of what I find are the knockoff 110 knives of questionable quality but today my patience paid off and I came across a well used but well taken care of Buck 110 knife for $8 and I snatched that thing up almost right after I stepped in the door.

However there's something odd about it. The overall feel of the handle is...blocky, like the corners on the scales weren't rounded off but simply cut flat and left as is like QC was in a hurry that day. The same goes for the brass bolsters. The blade is stamped Buck 110 USA but all the letters are rather small. There are three dots along with the number so it looks like .110..

I really don't know what I found here. Is this some sort of counterfeit knife or is it a rare find?

You got a good one, I mean a GREAT one there! That is how they were made then, and the three dots are highly sought after...

Old 110s and 112s have squared off bolsters. The newer ones are rounded. You did good. Look at the sticky above the forum and you can date the knife. Picture?

I prefer the squared bolsters to the radius ones. Maybe because that's what I used for decades. They just feel better in my hand.

Yours was born about 1980. Very nice find!!:thumbup:

Stumps, yes I agree, Charlie's 110 is a early 1980 3 dot model. Shortly thereafter Buck began to radius them. Now they are all like the late 3 dots. DM

As asked here are the pictures of the three dot, in comparison to a 110 from last year.

Don't know what you mean. The handle and blade age match. Why do you say "new handle"?
