My aunt gave this knife to me when I was about 14 or 15. I was young and had no idea why. It was dull and dirty and I didn't even give it a second thought. I wasn't into knives then. I remember breaking the main blade doing something stupid. I didn't even care. I threw it in a closet and forgot all about it.

13 years later and I am obsessed with knives. I was randomly visiting my mom one day when I spied in an old cup filled with pens, the very knife my aunt had given me. Still dirty, dull, and unloved. I grabbed it up, took it home, cleaned it just enough, and instantly regretted the follies of my youth.

So my question is, what should I do with it? Is it possible to replace the blade? Part of me wants to carry and use it to make up for neglecting it for all those years. But part of me wants to keep it like it is as a reminder to treat Old Timers with respect.

What are your thoughts?

I think you have an opportunity to right a wrong. Why live with the mistake, when you can be proud of the repair?? Before you fix it, find out if it has pin construction, or Swinden Key construction!

Maybe re-shape the blade into something useful. A small wharncliffe? I did that with the spey blade on a trapper.--KV

Just MY opinion, but i would either grind it down into a punch or a wharncliffe blade, or take the pins out, remove a liner, and pin it back together with only one blade ?

I'd leave it just the way it is. It will still cut, and will always remind you of the lesson that's taken 13 years to learn.
