found my first kabar mule out in the muck and mud, where it sat for five or so years.

Its a little rusty, its nasty as hell, and I took pics. Then I cleaned it up, re-ground it, and now its able to speed-cut clean as you please through thin paper. I put that poor knife through absolute hell..hammered through stone..point and blade, through a 2x4, dug a hole through a 2x4, battoned quite a few oak and hickory blocks (unlocked), and carved untold amounts of shavings and started dozens and dozens of fires. This one, unlike the one I carry now, had serrations until I reground into a sectional planing edge. Toughest folding knife i have ever used. Point and blade are now wickedly keen. Will post pics in just a little bit, takes me a minute to get good pics. Just wish I had pins and bar to replace the rusted ones which were broken (which i did on purpose years ago). I hope you all and especially the folks at kabar enjoy the pics, which to me show you just how tough a mule is. Pics will be up by tonight.

Good story. Would definately like to see what it looks/looked (before/after) like after entombed in mud for 5 years!

All the pins are rusted but Im thinking its only surface rust. Going to take it apart later and examine and take pics of before and after cleaning them. I had to rinse off the mud to even see what it was, but its still plenty dirty in the first pics. The blade only had a few spots..I was surprised. The main bolt was the least effected, but the small pins seem to be eaten up. The steel liners and the g-10 scales are in good shape.

Wow. Doesn't really look any worse than it probably did going in the ground eh. :D Grind the serrations off? Would have been cool to see pics of it being unearthed from where it was.

It would have. Lol when I found it I thought it was a old toy or some such, it was so caked..surprised me.

You take the lock off too? Oh are you saying you just found it! and it didn't own it previously?

Awesome! Great find! Like seeing an old friend after years apart. I feel ya bud. Looking forward to pics. Thanks for sharing!

I took the lock out after the test I described, the lock itself sheared through the pin when I battoned the blade in locked position, it only broke after I struck the area above the pin though. Yep, it belonged to me, I just it those years ago after those tests. :-)

Glad you enjoyed. Will have the pics of it in restored condition in about 30 min
Just got home.

Nice work. Doubly nice that you found it after all that time AND were able to restore it.
