I posted awhile ago about wanting to get a slipjoint. I carried slipjoints for my whole youth, mostly Case peanuts of some variety. I have been trying to decide on what to get for a couple months, but the patterns and handle materials are boggling. So, I was at my local hardware, and I saw in the Case display a knife that came home with me. It is a Case medium jack w/black handles. It is like a peanuts (slightly) bigger brother. I don't recall seeing this pattern much, or at all, when I was a kid. It is just a perfect size, and it looks great with the equal ends and rounded bolsters. The black composition handles look classy, if not too fancy. I see that Case only is offering this pattern in one other handle material, I think I'll need that one too. These slipjoints bring back a lot of memories!

Welcome back!

Have a look at the CASE Pen-Knife too, nicer user & doer in yellow-handle.

I think I may know the model you mean.

I think I may know the pattern you mean. Is it #87??

The one I"m thinking of I always see in black, round bolsters, tru-sharp, two blade jack at 3 1/8 closed. Its a fantastic choice for just a step above the peanut. Case makes one in 3 1/8 that is pen knife with blade at each end, single spring. That one comes in yellow delrin and CV. That one is pattern #44.

I really do love the #87!!!

#087, dats it! I'm really liking it. I'll try to get some pics of it. I'd like to find some of this pattern in bone.

I agree completely. I just got the same model in the Brown Barnboard. I am a fan of the 87 pattern, and really like the two blade version. My first Case when I was a kid was a 3 blade Stockman of the 87 pattern. I have also seen a 1 blade version of the 87.

I have that pattern, too, and it's a real good carryin' knife. The blades are stainless, but don't let anybody tell you they won't get sharp. Great little knife.

Do they keep that edge very well? Is it a good working knife?

I need to look for that barnboard. I've only seen the black. But its such
an appealing pattern to me that I"m gonna go for one, stainless and all.

Man, I love the Barnboad jigged handles. I was looking HARD at a couple patterns in the old black barnboard. My real desire in this pattern would be smooth bone. My treasured Peanut was smooth appaloosa bone. I lost it for a couple years, and found it under the seat in my car when I was selling the car. The day after I found it, someone stole it at work.

okBookGuy, it seems to keep the edge well enough for me. I never really pay that much attention, I just sharpen my knife when it needs it. I think it's a great little EDC, and does everything I need it to do. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
