Found out the hard way

Just bought a foliage green/black Dozier folder. Expected as per the site's description it would be AUS-8; when it arrived it was D2. Best guess is Ka-Bar is migrating all the Doziers to D2. Bad news for me; good news for D2 fans, I guess.

All the Doziers on the Ka-bar web page are listed as D2, so they have indeed switched. Retailers are often slow to catch up unfortunately, especially if it is a running change.

Interestingly, they do include this quote for several, but not all, models:

“Please note this product was previously made with AUS 8A Stainless Steel and you may receive a Dozier with this steel if purchased from a third party. You will only receive this knife in D2 steel when purchased directly from KA-BAR.”

Live and learn the hard way, I guess...

Depending on how long ago this was done, there may be some AUS8 models still out there. A few emails to some of your favorite vendors might locate one for you. Worth a shot…

I could, but above and beyond the D2 switch, I'm disappointed overall. While the handle is comfortable and properly grippy, the action is stiff and hard to work. I fail to see why an ambi thumbstud wasn't used, even something as schlocky as the garbage CS uses for most of their thumbstuds. The pocket clip doesn't seem to hold it well. Worst, for a supppsedly 1.6 oz knife, it feels heavy in-hand, and I don't understand why that is. I'm just glad I got it $10 cheaper than the awful-looking blue scale/BSB blade that actually was supposed to be D2. While I'd've preferred gray scale/black blade (because black/black wasn't an option), I thought the gray was too light, so went with foliage.

Well that’s a bummer, it’s no fun when a new knife disappoints you. Hope it’s returnable.
