I know the pioneer is very, very close, but I believe I've actually found THE ACTUAL swiss army knife "soldier" military model, according to me brief internet looking, and also the wiki;
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Soldier+1961

This one has all the right sruff; the blade marked with year [90], no engraving spot, no key ring, the military style logo, alox scales, and correct tool/blades.

What do you guys think - is it correct? Also, how hard are these to get? are they rare? I've looked for a while and this is the first one I've actually found, but perhaps I haven't been looking in the right places?

Nice knife! I'm not an authority, but I "think" this is probably a 2006 knife, not a 1990. All the other blade stampings I've seen on Vic's are read tip up.

yeah looks like an 06 Soldier...not rare but are currently selling for around 2x what a pioneer goes for...same thing just the pioneer has an added key chain.
