I was rearranging some stuff in storage and found a box which contained lots of trinkets from my childhood. Like a monkey who saves anything shiny .. the contents of the box was very eclectic to say the least. I had often wondered what happened to small folders I would carry in elementary school years. My paternal Grandmother started my interest in 'collecting' knives. I remember her giving me a 4 blade Kissing Crane when I was 9 or so but already had several advertising style knives. The knives pictured .. I definitely remember carrying those Purina's .. even to school. They're worn, broke, and shot out .. but I wouldnt sell or trade them for any amount.

Anyway .. just thought I'd share with the forum what I found.

I only wish I was bought up with knives in the family interest, I envy you - that's a very cool and important piece of your collection there, great to see - Thank you for sharing with us - I enjoyed it!

I was just reading through my families history and found a connection to Davy Crockett! Thanks for sharing these lovely treasures from your past. I wish I still had my first knife...

You should put them in a display frame and hang it on the wall, in sure you could find something for a background from your youth, maybe a pic of you and your Grandmother for a backdrop.

Cool find, I love going through old boxes, I've moved probably a half a dozen times since 1978 and I still find an occasional box from so many years ago and usually there's something sharp in there... :)

Thanks for sharing...

Never forget Dad coming out of the feed\hardware store with two Purinas about 1960. I think they were promotional (free).

My family has very strong emotions with knives. Someone usually is gifted a knife for birthdays and Christmas. We also hold sacred the act of passing down knives thru generations. Very symbolic in nature.

I had already thought about displaying them. Just gotta figure the how & where.

Who made the Davy Crockett knife? My brother had the same knife and I had a Confederate soldier one. I'd like to find one to replace my lost one, but I don't remember who made them.

They have no name on any of them. Just "USA" on the main blade. No other markings.

Besides the cool knives what else "Traditional" was in the box?

Just some personal stuff, like dog tags, a couple old Zippos from my military unit, MOS ring .. that sort of stuff .. and these are the rest of the knives in the box.

The Boy Scout knife says, 'National Council'

The brass knife is from my Maternal grandfather .. he was stationed in Thailand in the mid-late 60s.

Very cool. Keep in mind those are old celluloid handles and can spontaneously deteriorate and "gas out", which emits a very caustic gas that will rust every knife in close proximity. Keep them away from other knives to be safe.
