Found some old birthday money, thinking about a 7....

I was digging through my drawers and I found some old birthday money, then I got to thinking about the BK7, but I don't want to carry the stock because it looks overly bulky for the knife, and I like the split loops of the Spec Ops sheaths, so I was wondering, before I buy a BK7, does Texas Hunt Co. still sell the Fieldmaster (I think that what it was called, correct me if I'm wrong)? And if not, is it possible to get a Spec Ops for a similar price?

I don't wanna get a 7 and get stuck with the stock one that doesn't have the split loops (as you can tell by now, those are a HUGE plus for me) and like I said, is overly large looking for the knife itself when I can complete my BK&T bushcraft collection with an 11 or 14 with a really nice sheath for the same price.

Thank you in advance for any input any of you might have on the subject.

Edit: I should have noted above that I already checked their website.

I would recommend that you stop thinking about the 7.

Its too much knife for you.

Someone your age wouldn't know how to manage that much versatility and awesomeness. Just not possible.

Just wanted to give you some guidance on the BK7.

:D

Moose

Might I also recommend that you throw a little of that BDay money at a membership, too.

Why don't you buy a can of paint stripper and focus on modifying the knives you already have? Seems like you're pretty strapped for cash, so ask yourself if you really NEED the next knife. I've got a BK7, it was my first big Becker and is still my favorite, and it rides around in a Fieldmaster (yup you're right) sheath by Texas Hunt co. I absolutely love it, but I focused my money and effort into modifying and accessorizing that one knife until it became just what I wanted. If that is the one knife you've been longing for, and I don't see why not, then go ahead, pull the trigger and get it. If it's just another addition to the collection, and you have a knife that fills that role right now, then maybe you should hold off and save the cash for later, and use some of it to buy some tools, as you seem to have caught the modifying bug. A set of small files, a couple chainsaw files, some paint stripper and a few sheets of coarse to fine grit sandpaper will open up all kinds of doors for your creative side.

At the moment the largest knife I have is the BK2, which has a decent amount of chopping power, but it doesn't even come close to what a 7 should be capable of. As far as whether or not I need it, that's like asking anyone else if they need another Becker, of course the answer is always going to be a yes. I don't know if it's going to be my favorite knife and I don't know if it's the knife I've been longing for, but that's because I don't know exactly what I want from a larger knife aside from versatility and chopping power.

Now, after all that, my question still remains unanswered, does Texas Hunt Co. still sell the sheaths? I already know how to get the knife itself.

And yes Moose, I will be getting a gold membership or something as soon as I can, but I don't want to put knife money towards a 1 year subscription when I can get a 3 year if I wait a little bit.

Why not get a 1 year membership and in that time when you get the cash get the 3 year membership and they will prorate the difference for you.

Clich wasn't here yet? Oh well I guess i'll say it...GET THE 5 ITS THE BEST (or the 9 which I'd go for before the 7 personally)

Yeah you seem to like having a sig so at least drop 10 bucks on the site.

OK, I'm tired of people ragging me and not others for posting a sig into my posts, but whatever, I wanted a legitimate answer to a legitimate question and it turns into a "Go pay for your sig now" thread. I'm upgrading to a basic membership just because people seem to have something against me for doing something others already do.

Edit: I guess I won't be upgrading to basic right now, authorize.net won't allow my transaction through and I will not use paypal because there is no debit option, and I don't use credit for anything.

I agree we might be being a little hard on the kid, just sayin' guys. I'd rather have him around as a 'registered user' than to not not have him around at all because he got chased away for not buying a membership.

That said, I would also throw ten bucks towards the site if I were in your position. I am pretty strapped for cash too, young father and recent home buyer over here, but we all can find a way to set aside ten bucks to toss in the pot. Does your family drink a lot of soda/beer? Maybe ask if they'll let you set aside the cans and bottles so you can go recycle them and get some extra bucks for your wallet? That's what I do, and I'm 24 haha.

It's not the $10 that's the problem, it's that I was waiting till I could get a gold membership and give more back to the forums than a basic membership. The basic membership for me is a waste because all it accomplishes is getting people to shut up about my pasted sig, where as a gold or platinum membership is me trying to actually give back to the forum. My parent's drink maybe once a year, and I can't remember the last time my dad even had a beer. As far as soda goes, it's mostly Shell station fountain drinks on our way to Scout meetings (30-45 minute drive), so there's not much to cut there, but like I said, it's not giving money that I have a problem with, trust me, if you guys hadn't gotten me hooked on the tweeners (and I lasted about a day before I broke down) I would have gotten a membership then and not had a reason to use it until I actually got another Becker or some serious modding on the 2, the problem I have is this BS about my threads about knives and/or questions that turn into sig flaming, which is something I would expect from the same people that think sheath knives and guns are to dangerous for society, not from the good people on here.

OK, sorry for the double post but I just got an email from onestopknifeshop.com, I guess they got one of my attempts at paying for a membership, I just hope it didn't take all 3 attempts (I got an error saying it the payment could not be processed or some-such thing so I tried again, and again, then I posted in here again and stopped trying to get it through.

I hope that wasn't a dig at the membership level of the only person that defended you haha. Everyone doesn't hate you or anything man they all just love this site and want everyone help pitch in to help keep it going.

No, I didn't mean to offend you, but like I said, for me it's $10 that gets people off my ass, not a real contribution to the site, I know how much servers can cost, and in my time of stalking and actually being a member here, there have been two major upgrades, which is a lot given when I started stalking.

Other fairly large forums I've belonged to have gone down entirely because a few people that wanted to give a lot more back were doing the same thing I wanted to do, which was wait a month or so and give more than 5x back to the forum, and they got put in a similar position as myself, for the same thing actually, pasting in their own sigs on a graphic designs forum because they wanted to wait a month before getting a higher membership level and were told to upgrade or get banned for having their sigs in former posts (much less flexible management on that forum, part of the reason it shut down, people didn't like being ragged on for trying to help and stopped paying).

Anyhow, I guess my payment went through, but that by no means I'm happy with the way this thread and my last thread went. As a matter of fact, it means I'll probably slow down a lot on my posting only because people rag me and not others.

Just step back and breathe man...it's not you. About the ten bucks not contributing to the site, think about this.. If nine more people act like you and step up to a basic membership from a free membership, that would be 100 bucks going to the forums..just like saving for a car, house or BK7, every little bit helps..

Lets not get all bitter and ragequit over this..people were just trying to give advice.

Now to answer your question, I would not buy the 7 either...I would stay with the 2 and 16 and possibly get a 14 or 11. Then after your gig this summer, think about the other knives...but I would get a 4 before the 7 or 9, but that's just me...

Keep an eye on the exchange and maybe you will save yourself a few bucks..That's what I did, and after 3 weeks of checking the exchange religiously, I was able to grab a BK10 that I have been hunting for....for 40 dollars less than what I was prepared to spend..

Dude, relax. You're new to the forums and you're young, and it seems you want to walk in with the same level of respect and status as members that have been here much longer. I was a non paying member until just this weekend, but for the year and a a bit before that I was fine without running a pirate sig, I still contributed and participated in contests (and won), and nobody once asked me to upgrade my membership. The fact of that matter was that I didn't know if I would continue to be an active member here, a year later and im still wasting all my time here so I decided to pay up.

Nobody was forcing you to get a membership, and to try to turn this whole thing into "Look what you bastards made me do." is pretty petty and immature. You have not been flamed at any point, by anyone as far as I can tell (maybe you thought I was flaming you because I said to put some money to a membership... I dunno). Fact is, in all your posts you've mentioned how you have no money to buy paint stripper (after multiple posts about how hard it is to strip knives by hand), no money to buy a membership and will not have any money until summer, but if you were to find some those would be the first things you'd get. But now you'd rather get a knife, ofcourse you would, so would I, that's fine, how you spend your hard earned cashola is up to you. But don't act like anyone forced you to spend your money one way or another. Wanna blow your load on a new BK7 while you complain about no tools, no funds and how much you want to support BladeForums? Go ahead, wanna make yourself a little signature to post every time you reply, like a paying member? Sure, might bother some people but not me, (though I just posted my BH# in my location when I was a regular member rather than take the chance of looking like I'm cheating the system).

I think you need to look again at people's replies to your threads, realize you really haven't been flamed like you feel you have, stand up and be your own man and don't point fingers. There's alot of good folks here as you already know, don't put a bad taste in their mouths for reacting the way you are.

PS. Looks like the Texas Hunt Co sheath is discontinued, got mine last year and I think they were low on stock then. Hope that helps.

You pretty much nailed it right their.

OK, I know I have acted immaturely towards this, and yes I have been dodging the paint stripped/tools things, I didn't mean to turn all of my threads into something like this, trust me I never intended for this crap to happen and I don't like pissing people off if it can be avoided, I was just doing what I've seen others do, and it was only supposed to last a short time, I had no intentions to keep posting it forever without paying, and I wasn't going to upgrade to gold for the perks, but I also don't like to spend money to have a sig. When I upgraded I wanted it to be because I could finally start giving back to the forum as best I could, not for something as petty as a signature.

I'm sorry to anyone I pissed off, I was being stupid, acting like a teenager trying to do things how they worked in my head without thinking it through, tunnel vision sucks and retrospect is always 20/20, I think I learned that from this, but that by no means makes what I said right.

In my mind I justified fighting back because I had multiple threads about knives turn into "Pay or drop the sig" threads, but like I said, I was wrong and I am sorry for it.

P.S. Thank you for answering my question Haze, inspite of being one of the people I seemed to tick off.

I was never ticked off at any point, just trying to explain why your threads and responses are being interpreted the way they are. But to be honest, this is a little too much drama for my liking, and feels a little too much like I'm at work dealing with fights over popularity and hurt feelings (Work in a high school). Hopefully this silliness can be dropped and we can go back to talking about knives and bushcraft and modding and all that fun stuff, rather than do damage control an explain our feelings over some silly drama that didn't need to exist to begin with.
