I was cleaning up some stuff at home and I found a couple of knives from my high school days.
One of them made me laugh. I had ordered it from one of the ads in the back of a comic book. Two lock back knives for $1.98!! They looked like a stilleto in the ad, they were pretty cheezy looking when they arrived. I'm glad that I still have one. The blade is about 1.5", the steel is pretty soft.
The other one I found was a Utica Kutmaster Stockman's Knife. The main blade is marked "tungsten" stainless, jigged bone scales, made in the USA. I think I got this one at Brookstone, this was probably back in the early 70's.
Finding the Kutmaster was one of those small blessings. I have been wanting to get back to carrying a slippie, so I had been looking for a stockman's knife. Then I got laid off from work last week
. So finding an old friend to carry was great. It needs sharpening, but nothing major and maybe a little oil.
Finding these knives and seeing how sharp they are really showed me how much my sharpening technique has improved over the years (much of it since I got sucked into knife making and Blade forums). I still have the same Norton India combination stone that they got sharpened with years ago
