I was digging around at the local (ancient) surplus store today and came across a dust covered stack of 3"x 15/16"x1/4" pocket stones.

The lady behind the counter said 59¢ each, but her boss overhead and said that they were $6 I walked out with two for $8

There are 3 left. I'm thinking about going back and getting them. The only problem (not sure if it's a problem?) is that some have hairline cracks when held up to the light. There are various inclusions embedded in the middle of the stones which I take as a good sign.

The big bummer is that she told me that not long ago they had a few "really big ones". I guess they could have been anything though...

Noticing a hair line crack in this stone is not a concern. As you may can see them with the nature this stone and still the bonding will be sound. i.e. it may look like a crack but is not. DM

Nice find!...I found out a long time ago that asking what they used to have only leads to heart break:miserable:

"really big ones" are worth serious money these days.

Oh yes, I know. ;)

Thanks for the info DM. Glad to hear that it's sound.

I went back to grab the rest but they were closed. They go for close to $30 online so I guess I should stop in and grab them.

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to give the impression that these were for sale.

These are already going to other people.

Again, sorry for the confusion.

stone arrived today, thanks a lot man! The cut edges are supe rsmooth so you can use the corners and the face to sharpen. So far ill put the grit at Japanese 3000-4000 # . leaves a pretty good edge, ill wait for my southard to dull a little and try it on that. so far ive touched up only my leatherman wingman, pretty good results, could be sharper.
