Or what WAS the old plant. I've been wondering for some time where it was, and if it still existed, so yesterday I Googled a satelite image of Middletown, and then scanned over the rail lines looking for a building with a similar outline, and believe it or not there it was! I had some time to kill today (Geez is the construction business dead!), so I took a ride over and snapped a pic. It was raining and sleeting like hell, so I only got one shot off, but I'll head back over next week for a closer look. The building is now (and has been for quite some time) operated by a shoe company/manufacturer. That strip of writing on the side of the bulding at one time said "Schrade Cutlery Company Middletown, NY". For the photo, I'm standing in a spot where the locomotive in the old cut would be running me down in the next few seconds. Those tracks are now gone, and in their place is a parking lot and additional old manufacturing buldings. The building along the tracks, although it looks to be about two football fields long in the old picture, is actually about half that. The second row of buildings behind the trackside row is now gone, demolished rather recently in fact. Wish I could have snooped around before they knocked it down , although after seventy some odd years I'm sure it was picked clean. I would like to ask the folks in the shoe building if they've found anything over the years though. Very cool feeling finally seeing the place, here are a couple of pics; One's the old catalog picture, the other is the one I shot today from the front corner:
