I found this knife in one the local pawn shops today. I found some info on the net about it, but I'm still kind of curious. could anyone tell me about it? I bought it purely because it is a schrade usa and the blade is in very good condition aside from the odd patina. I paid 20 for it. was that an ok buy?

You did ok for the price I believe. Here is a thread on the pattern from way back. Let us know in this thread if you have more questions after reading that thread.

PS- Is that blood stains? Did you buy a murder weapon? :D

Lol, maybe they are blood stains. Hopefully I didn't buy something that belongs in an evidence locker.

That was a great thread. Thank you. I was mostly wondering about the guard because it was different than all of the pics I found. I think it's the utility hunter variation. Thanks again

I was also wondering how old it was. At least 40 years I guess. I was hoping it could be dated by the stamp or some other identifying factor

The company name changed from Schrade Walden to Schrade in 1973. So your knife is pre-1973.

This link will take you to a catalog archived online where you will see your knife described, illustrated, named and priced in 1969. You can look at other years to see when it first and last appeared.

And excuse my manners but.. .welcome to the Schrade collector's forum! Now you need to find one of each of the other variants!

The H-15 is an awesome hunting knife. Its really light for its size and the thin blade takes an awesome edge.

Thanks for the info and the welcome. I'll now be watching for old schrade knives along with my usual interests

Ultrahesh, in your search for these, don't forget that Imperial was assocated with Schrade Walden and Schrade, and they made their own variants of this pattern. Also, Sears was an important customer for Schrade and a lot of these were sold with J.C. Higgins, Ted Williams and Craftsman marks, often with upgraded features and sheaths.

Doug_86, Welcome to the forum! Indeed it is an interesting and useful pattern in all it's variants. I hope you don't mind but I had your post moved here from the linked post above so as to let that eight year old thread continue it's slumber. It can still be accessed through the link above as well as through the forum search feature (above and to the right), but we try not to "necro-post" when possible, reviving long dead threads. Please let us know if you need help searching and feel free to post your questions and pictures.

This is a link to an old Imperial catalog where you can view their wholesale price list of this pattern.

I do not have a great amount of luck dealing with pawnshops on eBay.
Only yesterday I bid $65 on a knife, only after the seller email me before the auction ended and asked me "To Buy-it-Now".
He later, emailed me back quoting $150 postage (to Australia); I then asked him to remove my bid.
The knife sold later for $42! The seller has now listed another knife or the same knife; with an hour to go with two bids, this knife is sitting now on $26.
This seller is playing games...

ePrey games can be fun. I am currently trying to replace one or two of my stolen knives but so far no joy. One guy wants to charge me over $10 shipping domestic. The knife fits in a small flat rate box that ships for just over $5.

Codge, I have shipped Displays amost as big as me, for $150.
Like your small flat rate box, International flat rate boses cost less then $25.

Yep. But some sellers want to be paid for a tank of gas and a high hourly wage for their trip to the post office it seems. This particular seller priced his knife at $75 BIN or offer. I offered $50 knowing I'd pay $60 with shipping. His counter offer was $65 meaning he would still get the $75 out of me. I was mostly interested because it was a complete NIB knife with correct bling. But the blade had issues. They could be corrected by sending it to a person I know for a factory refinish. But at additional cost. And even if it were perfect and complete it would not be a $100 knife. So there is that. I have an offer in on another one just now. We'll see if he is responsive or not.

I bid $65 on this knife and it sold today for $52 http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&_trksid=p2047675.l2565&rt=nc&item=200993401063
There is some things to lern about Porn Shops and eBay, even if we live to a 100.
This seller would not sell to me becase I would not pay $150 for postage.

Some sellers refuse to ship overseas because of a bad experience and had to eat a deal gone sour. Good buy on the knife for someone. If the seller would have had better pictures and mentioned it is a bone handled slim stockman, he may have gotten better bidding.
