Hi every one, I’m new to this part of the forum, but was told that there is no better place to ask about this knife.
I was walking through a swap met in Tijuana today and they had this on the table, it cost me 5 dollars, it seems to me that it’s old.It has 49’ers stamped on the leader sheath. Any one that can tell me something about this knife?
Il be grateful for any help you can give me. Thanks in advance.

Your knife is a pattern 498. It is one of the earliest of that pattern made, having a blade from the earlier pattern 148. Once production was up and running, these had their own tang stamp of 498. The sheath is correct. This knife was manufactured in 1973, the first year of production. It also came in a version with a stacked leather handle with finger grooves. There were several knives in this 49'r lineup. The 498 had the longest production run.

Thanks for the info guys, I not planing on selling it, don't even know what its worth.
