Someone had wrote in to the Victorinox website asking about new models for 2011, in particular Swiss Champs. Here is their reply:

20.01 Swiss Champ project

Dear collector

Thank you very much for your request dated 9th January 2011 and your loyalty towards our brand and products. Each year Victorinox launches some new products while other products are removed from the catalogue. Novelties are shown on our homepage. We are pleased to inform you, that our team works on a new Swiss Champ project (kick-off meeting).

A new tool causes several changes on existing production tools and machines. These investment costs are very high in our industry and make it difficult to fully amortise such costs if too many new products are launched within a short time. The Victorinox products not only have to be practical and of high quality, but should also offer good value for money.

Our effort to provide consumers around the world with functional and practical high-quality products at affordable prices gives our lives deeper meaning and adds joy and satisfaction to our work.

If you have any good ideas regarding a new tool, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Yours sincerely

I would expect they'll make bigger changes than just new scales. A diamond file would be a nice addition.

does "kick-off" meeting sound like a hint?
perhaps a project on some commemorative club/team, euro or world cup soccer/football special???

I think they want to add one or more new tool to the SwissChamp, since
1. Robert Elsener mentiones "a new tool" in his letter,
2. the meeting will involv a discussion on investment costs.

Adding an existing tool or just new scales would take investment costs too of course, but they've done that many times before and probably the investment costs are less high than adding a new tool. I think changing the configuration of a SAK to get a new model or developing new scales don't have such a big impact on the production line than adding a new tool. Imagine they want to add a new kind of pliers or such, that takes a new machine and that new machine must be fit into the production line.

Well, just my thoughts.

it's gonna be interesting to see what exactly is he talking about

With all the expensive materials needed, it's more then a scale change. I could see a locking blade, stronger redesigned pliers, and a cutting hook implement. Or at least I hope, lol
