My wife spotted this Case knife laying in the dirt in eastern Montana while we were Elk hunting this weekend.
Its a 41 year old Case #6318PU 10 Dot in Red Bone built in 1970.

Wonder how long its was lying in the sage brush and its history. I'm a knife fanatic, so I thought I would share a cool find.

Somebody lost a dear old friend there. Great find, I feel for the guy that lost it though.

Couldn't have been out there very long, as it would've been corroded I'm sure (I'm assuming carbon blades, and that it hasn't been cleaned up?).

It's a great find. But I just know somebody, somewhere, is really mourning the loss of that one. I'd feel that loss for a LONG time.

Great find. Feel for the person who lost it though.

Who knows - maybe they're a member of this forum and will see this thread.

I don't know how it could be done, but I wonder if the owner could be found?

Place a notice somewhere that hunters would see, and ask the lost owner to describe the knife and where he was hunting when he lost it. what great karma if that could be done!

Carl.

Yeah, That would really suck to loose a knife like that. :(
I have to believe it hasn't been out there too long, as it's just in too good of shape. ;)

Great looking knife, but I agree, post an ad that you found it where hunters in the area usually would visit and see if the owner can be found...if that was mine, I'd be devastated to have lost it after years of faithful service.

Nice to see someone from Kalispell on here too :) I have a good friend that lives in your neck of the woods.

I agree with others, try to post it as found. From the looks of it, even though it was made in 1970 it wasn't lost all that long ago. What a great old knife!

My thoughts exactly. That's a GREAT knife that someone obviously rode a lot of miles with. How cool would it be to get it back into the pocket of its owner?

Wow - look how much use those blades have seen.

If that had been lost in Maryland, it would have rusted shut in a week with the humidity and rain we have experienced this year.

Great find. All the years I've hunted around Maryland all I ever found were spent shell casings.

Nice knife, hope it's owner can be found.

What really caught my eye was elk hunting with your wife? Now that's a catch!

I posted on few hunting sites that would attached people that hunt that area, asking if anyone has lost a pocket knife and gave a general area. Would be more then happy to return it to the owner. As I would be sick also if I lost it. Will keep you posted if the story has a happy ending.

A knife that's been loved for sure.

If I lost a knife (it is so easy to do) that I was really attached to, it would obviously cast me down. But, if it were found by an appreciative person (the O.P.) it would live on in somebody else's pocket, that would take a lot of the sting out of such a loss.

I've lost a couple over the years, and I have hoped they would be found by someone who would appreciate them. Enjoy it like the previous owner would! Oil the joints, and keep it happy!
