I received this Shun knife from a customer for repair and sharpening. It had several large chips along the edge. I ground them out, thinned the edge and repolished on my belt grinder (all wet). I was about to go to a high grit belt when I noticed these small dots.
At first I thought they were just some dust on the blade, but they wouldn't wipe off, even with acetone. Upon closer inspection they appeared to be voids in the core steel. I lightly etched the blade in Ferric chloride and neutralized. The voids remained. One happened to be very close to the edge after resharpening. It'll probably cause a chip, won't it?
I'm sure of the exact model of this knife because the branding was almost completely gone by the time I received it. But it looks like the Shun Fuji line, which is damascus clad SG2
What do you guys think I should do? Safe to leave it? Contact Shun?
Included are some pictures
