Hi folks I just wanted to show a couple of pics and tell you a little about the week after the ABS show. I made plans with Adam Desrosiers to spend the week at my shop teaching each other what we could about knife making and damascus making he brought along his friend Mike Deibert and we had a very good time. Haley could not join us till friday as she had other things going on that week . Mike Makes steels while Adam keeps him on track drv1.jpgAdam shows us how its done drv2.jpgHaley finally gets here drv4.jpgAdam plays with my new tire hammer for the school drv3.jpg

And while they where playing in the fire in studio 4 I played next door getting a key hole ready to put the handle on with tips from Adam as I moved it along. I had one ready to do just that by friday. I had tried this on my own once and lets just say I am glad no one got hurt. it was great to have a Adam right therekh2.jpgkh1.jpg this time as I put the handle on . thanks Adam I think it is safe to say that we all learned a lot

so awesome Dave :)

This visit was a blast! Thanks so much for having us in your shop and home for this awesome experience Dave!
More photos to come of the mosaic Damascus Dave showed me how to make! Thanks also for the tips on tomahawk throwing.... I set up a target by the shop ;)

Adam.

Andrea's incredible poached egg inside a fresh avocado and smothered with cherry tomatoes, fresh basil and lemon zest is haunting my dreams!

Looks like a cool experience for both parties. As a fan of the keyhole design, I'm liking this one. Very similar to the one I picked up from Adam in San Antonio.

Great pics!! I heard f/Adam that he was hanging out at your shop making some Damascus. Glad to see some pics!! :)

Thanks everyone I look forward to seeing some of the knives from Adam and Mike when they get them done

I had a blast at Dave's shop! What a blessing it was to learn damascus from someone like Dave. My head is still swimming with all the information that I acquired in my time at Studio 4. I'm really happy that I took notes along the way. Dave's studio is a sight to behold too. I've visited many blacksmiths and Dave's shop is a testament to a great artisan in not only awesome knives and damascus but beautifully creative ironwork as well. By the end of my time there I came away with a couple billets ready for making blades. I probably won't get to making any knives until I get back to Nicaragua. Thanks Dave for your (and Andrea's) warm hospitality and generous use of your studio. The only thing better than my time in your shop was Andrea's avocado eggs and the late night jam session!
Mike
P.S. I'll post pics of my knives as soon as I get them done.

It was great to have you here Mike I cant wait to see the knives and I hope you can share some of what I showed you with the other smith in Nicaragua and I think you did pretty good on the bass Have a safe trip home and we love the coffee
