Being a KnifeKnut has its benefits - and tasks that apparently come with the territory.
Long and short of it is that I had to skin and quarter four whitetail this morning. I absolutely adore my BK5 and never miss an excuse to use it. BTW: It's great for PBJs - try it!
So, of course I grab my trusty BK5, a butcher's steel, a hack saw, limb snippers and half thought about getting my BK15 but it wasn't exactly handy as it was all the way upstairs and besides, they're like collector's items anymore - so I just grabbed a Mora Carbon Companion to bar-back the BK5.
All I can say is WHAT A COMBO!!! That BK5 went though those deer like grease through a goose with the little Mora filling in at tight spots.]
Back int he day, I would do all of it with a Buck 110 and, if I was lucky, a hack saw. Then along came a variety of skinners and "hunting knives" - even used a CRK Sable and Ubejabne for years for this task, but the superlative performance of the BK5 and the One Piece range's discontinuation and, like the BK15, Collector's status means they are relegated to resting out their years (and mine).
If I wanted to skin and quarter an elk, a moose or even writhetail deer, I do not feel the least bot hesitant to grab my beloved BK5.
Needless to say, my hands (in latex gloves) were covered in blood, fat and what have you - the ergonomics of Ethan's handles (absolutely factory original BTW save for SS fasteners) performed flawlessly.
Anyone up for a PBJ?
