Since I often see folks asking the ultimate question "Sebbie or Strider," and I finally got both, plus a few more, I figured I'd post a few photos and thoughts on the comparison. This is not a full up review, I'm not going to post all the specs, they should be easy enough to find if you're interested, but just some basic thoughts/comparisons between them.

The four knives are (top to bottom):

Chris Reeves Large Sebenza:
Todd Begg MIG (Military Issue Glimpse):
Rick Hinderer XM-18:
Strider SNG:

They're all high quality, well made knives. The arguements of which knife is "better" is stupid, it should be which one you prefer and fits your needs/lifestyle. That being said, here are some observations/thoughts:

Sebbie: $450 Had this one the longest. Obviously the slimmest of the knives, least 'tactical' looking. Great knife.

Military Issue Glimpse: $450 This one is the biggest of the four. So much so that I usually don't carry it in my jeans, only use it when I'm wearing my uniform (of course, that's what it was designed for). Different blade shape, and the only flipper in the group.

XM-18: $387 All around great knife. Beefier then the sebbie, but relatively slim. The clip is reversable, allowing point down carry (which I prefer), a big plus for me. Usually end up grabbing this one.

SNG: $400 Handle shape initially put me off, but it actually fits the hand very nicely if you use the choil. Very comfortable to use. Personally I like the camo job, although you can get it without.

Also, minor point, but Begg and Hinderer both give 10% military discount, Strider gives 20%, which is very much appreciated and at these high prices does add up to a chunk of change. Gotta prove it, so don't try and scam them, thats just uncool.

Any thoughts or questions let me know, or request for more pictures.

Dave

Is it just military discount or is it also police (for the Begg). I love the Begg...never seen that blade before.

My apologies for the delay in the reply, wife just went into the hospital (should be fine, but spending my time there for some reason :) ), but your best bet is to email them and ask, I'm not sure if it includes police or not. Tactical Knives did an article on that specific knife a few months back, heres a link to the article: http://www.tactical-life.com/online/tactical-knives/frontline-migs/

and Knifenut: of what specifically? Or just them in general? :)

Excuse my ignorance but how does the Begg lock work?

I assume it is a frame lock but I can't see how? :(

Good job! Thanks for sharing. I think Military deserve as large a discount as possible.:thumbup:

Thanks for serving and good luck with the wife. Enjoy the knives.
You Rock!

No Gerbers for you I see.:D

Dave,
If you get a chance, I would love to hear your thoughts on how the knives are in actual use. I'm not looking to get anything pseudo-scientific, just your personal opinion.

Thanks.

Bonkers: It's a frame lock. The interior frame is hidden between the G-10 handle. I'll try and get a pic for you tomorrow.

Many thanks ... except now I have become almost obsessed by these magnificent folders made by Mr Begg!:D

Bonkers: Begg makes some sweet knives. I have two fixed blades on order, can't wait to get those. Here are some pics of the lock.

Thank you for the photo's ...I now see what I was missing. :)

I really like the sturdy nature of Mr Begg's knives, not that any of the other fine blades you have could ever be called weak! ;)
