Four washers on the Stretch

I just partially disassembled a Super Blue Stretch I bought on the Exchange for cleaning because the action was gritty, and I found that there were four washers, two per side. Is this normal? All my other Spydercos have only two washers, one per side.

I've got two frn stretch folders (zdp189 and vg10) and they both have four washers, two per side, so I presume it's normal.

Love the Stretch, have a bunch of them, but the only two I've ever had apart, a CF/ZDP-189 and FRN/VG-10, both had one washer per side.

Weird. I found a thread from a while back with someone asking the same question, and a couple others said theirs had 4 as well.

The only reason I got a Stretch was to try the Super blue steel. I've never had it apart but I'm really impressed with this knife. The FRN handles are much better than I thought and the knife is rock solid, light and thin.

My SB Stretch only has 1 washer per side. I won't be taking it apart again soon, last time was a real p.i.t.a :( :D

Mine only had one washer on each side. Maybe it was a mistake from the factory?

I don't think so. To me it seems more likely that "total thickness" of the blade and washers is more important than washer count and the maker uses whatever number of washers per side achieves that.

It would be interesting to hear from someone who has customized a number of Stretches as to which configuration, 1 washer per side or 2 per side, they've encountered most often.

That just seems odd to me that some would have 1 and some would have 2 on each side. Doesn't seem consistent with manufacturing consistency!

It does seem quite odd. What Deacon says makes sense, but only if the number of washers was consistent with each variation of the knife. For instance, if all Super Blue Stretches have two washers per side because the blade stock is thinner on this variation, then that would make sense. But the fact that someone else commented their Super Blue Stretch has only one per side makes no sense at all.

FWIW, I took mine apart this weekend and removed the "extra" washers leaving only one per side. The knife seems to operate more smoothly now, although it does rub the FRN more. Go figure. Also, the centering is dead on now, whereas it was probably 70/30 before.
