I spotted this upcoming Fox/Bastinelli collaboration from the SHOT Show report over at knifenews -- images courtesy them. Apparently it's called the "Shadow". Really looking forward to this (except for the clip, which looks like the same terrible sharp-pointed design as the Spyderco Southard, I hope they change that). It's cool to see Maniago trying new things. Anyone know a release date? I hope the price matches the steel (N690). Has anyone tried the other Fox/Bastinelli collaboration "Slim Dragotac" or have opinions on the other Bastinelli folders which I think are made by Lionsteel?

Yes, I have been interested in this since I saw it on Knife News too.

I don't know when it will be available in the United States.

It should be part of the Fox Knives Italy line that is going to be distributed in the USA by Boker now.

I don't know what happened to Fox Knives USA.

Would anyone know how to access Fox Knives Italy's online catalogs?

I tried signing up and never got a confirmation.

Why do you think so? The other Fox/Bastinelli is currently selling under the Fox name.

Same experience here, no response from them.

Good looking knife as is the Dragotac Compact - lines reminds me of the Spyderco PPT.
I already have a thread over on Spydie forum asking for the background of these and would also like to know more.

I also started a thread about "high handle, low tip" knives on bladeforums here. I think the general verdict is that they are the result of a French adaptation of cooking knives as weapons. Bastinelli, the PPT, and many others are French designs.

Thx for link.
Also worthy of mention is the Bastinelli BBR2 - its a folder in the same vein with 'high handle, low edge/tip.'

The general design has grown on me.

I have the Perrin Street Beat and Street Bowie mentioned in the thread - they likewise make for excellent kitchen knives.

Yes. When first I read of the designers behind the PPT (Perrin, Philippe Perotti and Sacha Thiel), I at first thought the name 'Thiel' sounded German thus making the PPT a Franco-German project. Turns out Sacha Thiel is in Alsace - a region with quite a lot of 'back and forth' German-French history to it.

Be that as it may. The PPT is one of my favorite Spyderco knives. Its very substantial but how is that not a good thing.

Vanadium: To answer your question, it was also announced on the Knife News website in late 2016.

That Boker was going to be the United States distributor for Fox Knives Italy.

This in the 2017 Boker catalog too.

Boker does have a line of knives made by Fox Knives Italy under the Boker Italy name.

I am considering one of the Fox/Bastinelli Dragotac friction folders.

It might be a while until the Shadow is available though.

Some Bastinelli knives are produced by LionSteel and some by Fox both in Maniago, Italy. Usually, the giveaway is the blade steel. N690 is Fox and D2 (Bohler K110) is LionSteel.

My BBR2 and Raptor Lucy L are made by LionSteel and BB Drago Claw made by Fox.

I had a red folder in the lionsteel made stuff and it was really nice. Bastinelli really knows ergos that look really cool yet still feel really good. Kinda wish i still had it.

Looks like it will ship in March, and the street price will be about $250. A bit high, if you ask me. You can buy some fancy M390 flippers from Viper for under $200.
