Today I want to try my new Fox COMPSO

You got two different shape of the blade, spear point blade and rescue blade

Today I’ll try the spear point blade, which is the general purpose version of the COMPSO

First task, a tent peg

Then, a guy runner

Feather-sticks

Ypou may light them using the minifiressl hole of the Compso, just need to put the firesteel in the hole, then pull it rapidly

here a video that show how it’s work (sec. 1:01)

Finally, a hook. Of course you may build a spear, but I prefer this version to take out fruits from the threes

Conclusion: this small fixed blade is well made, and provide what you need basically in the woods, whit just 70 grams of weight and 70 mm of blade. Good cutting efficiency, and a needle point that is useful for certain tasks. The short handle is not the best you may desire for long heavy jobs, but for brief tasks as making tent pegs, guy runners, walking sticks, feather sticks and so on is working quite well. The ABS sheath is well made, not rattling and a clear “click” when you push the knife in it.
Note: I’m the designer of the Compso – ADdesign it’s my logo.

Ciao,
Alfredo

Updating: today I used the Compso for some batoning, doing feather-sticks and lightening them whit a mini firesteel

For woods whit a diameter of 65 mm no probs on batoning (the legnht of the blade is 75 mm so you have 1 centimeter to baton). Good feathers, very thin, easy to light whit the firesteel.

Hello,
it is not the knife what cool is ( it is a little bit) . Your work with the knife and the Wood are cool the hook is simple but effective, Great.
Thanks for the lesson.

Regards Dirk

Food prep using the Compso

first of all, speck

then tomatoes

and a mellon

my lunch, today

75 mm blade's is a bit short for some tasks, anyway it is possible to prepare food. Good cutting efficiency on the food, and the G10 handle has a good grip even if wet or oiled.

I really enjoy your reviews. It's a as much about the knife as it is the lifestyle. Really well done, and a capable little blade!

Cool knife! Are these in production yet? If they are whats the North American street price? Are we talking under or over $100?

I did a 'COMPSO' search of the U.S site, it's not listed there anywhere, i also just waded through everything, still not there.
It looks like they haven't added anything new their website in a few years. And the newest downloadable catalog they have listed is 2011.
I guess i'll go back and search again and try online retailers, the 4 or 5 companies i deal with don't seem to carry any fox knives.

The Fox Compso is a new product, I guess it will be available in USA in the next future.
My first knife, the Fox Parang Bushcraft, was available in USA 6 months after than here in Italy.

Here in Italy the knife is distributed by several shops, one of them is Coltelleria Collini, I guess they ship also out of Europe by request http://www.coltelleriacollini.it/fox/index.html
