I did a search but did not come up with to much on this company, can anyone help? They sell these knives in the PX, they are dual marked Ruku and Fox cutlery. From what I have gathered, Ruku is the importer. What I specifically want to know is, will they stand up to abuse, and are they easy to sharpen?

I am looking for a good knife to replace my SOG seal pup that I deployed with last year, I just did not like it that much. I saw these and the price was about in my range. For a reference, here is the type of knife that I was looking at.

I wouldn't bother. I see a lot of their switch blades, and they are pretty cheap. I can't attest to the rest of their line, but I wouldn't expect much. In my opinion, you could do much better for the money.
They use 440B on the high end. Just look past them.

Striker, welcome to Bladeforums! :)

Your link led to their home page, so I don't know what model you're looking at. What's the model number?

Fox actually makes some decent knives, at least, A.G.Russell thinks so, because he carries some of them. The late, lamented Delta Z also carried many of their knives, and people here liked them.

Their karambits look cool:

Fox makes some very good knives - I wish the availability here was better.
Yes, 440B is a tough steel and shouldn't be too hard to sharpen.

Thanks for the replies and sorry about the link, didn't notice I was in a flash site. The models that I was looking at were the 1666t and the 1667t styles.

Knifeclerk, are you speaking about Ruku knives in general, or Fox knives imported by Ruku? I know that the straight Ruku tools and knives I have seen were worthless, but was intrigued by the Fox brand. What got me interested was that I saw a lot of the Marines I work with carry them, but most did not really seem to know to much about them. If they are quality knives, I may very well pick one up.

The 1666 doesn't look bad, except I'm not much of a fan of cord-wrapped handles. See this current thread: Cord wrapped handles?

I think you'd be better off with a carbon steel blade for hard use and resharpening in the field. There are a lot of Cold Steel, Ontario, Camillus -- specifically Becker -- that would do fine and not cost much, either.

are you talking about fox and hound? i have a real nice old style stag folder, I'll post a pic later, it says just another day in the woods on it

I have a set of Fox cheese knifes (5) that I bought in Venice. They really cut through a huck of parm. like no ones business. The olive wood handles are nice. Metal is shiny. That's all I can say on fox.

Oh, and I purchased a liner lock in Italy also. Nice Olive wood, but the liner lock looks like it couldn't take 5lbs of back pressure. It's now living in my junk drawer.

Fox is basically a marketing company, they sub-contract out the manyfacture. Recently they've come out with a lot of very good stuff. Their karambit is made from N690, as used by Extrema Ratio. Mine came razor sharp. They may not be the best but they offer excellent value for money.
