Fox karambit

Are you specifically looking for those features [n680/other stainless, wave]? If not the 5.11 C.U.B. 2.0 is a great alternative with a 2.8" S30V blade for slightly less cash but its not as stainless/care free as N680(tho you'd have a hard time complaining about S30V I'd think) and there's no wave (tho there's about a million pictures on google of people that have added them).

I was just looking at the 511 looks kool, I'm open to any suggestions I like that the 511 is s30v steel

Or even a fixed blade could be possible?.

I'm interested in suggestions as well, the only one Ive ever seen is the Emerson but at >$250 I will never own one. I'm sure there's others so I'll be watching this thread.

Is your intended use SD or just something cool to have?

Sd primarily.

I own a couple of Fox knives, one of them is the fixed blade kerambit, and my experience with them has been excellent. It's a good manufacturer that isn't more popular due to a lack of distributors, they've made stuff for Spyderco, Ontario and others.

The 5.11 kerambit is nice (and has a thicker ring that works a bit better in extended grip techniques), but you need to modify it either with a zip tie or cutting a wave. I'm a firm believer that all folding kerambits should be waved or have a similar feature, fast opening is harder than a regular knife with your finger through the ring (more so if you favour a reverse grip, and put your thumb through the grip).

Does anyone own or have handled this knife? Is there a karambit in this price range that may be better that I'm over looking. Any help is appreciated.

I just sold my 599 on Dweebay last week.
Complete disappointment with both the knife and "the web site".
An initial waste of money, though I made back what I paid for it plus an additional amount over what I paid for it.

The 599 took a ridiculous 4 months to get to me.
At the time, 'the web site' claimed to be "the only U.S. dealer/site" to offer it.
It is now available on the Fox U.S.A. site for much less that what I initially paid.

The FX-599 Karambit arrived with a RIDICULOUSLY tight pivot, despite mega lubrication, then taking it apart and lightly sanding all contact points,
the knife remained so tight that even with the pivot screw COMPLETELY REMOVED, it was still tight.
It has a "flipper" which is negated by the tight pivot.
Also the scales that come on the 599 are literally like coarse sandpaper, the area under the clip needed to be sanded down in order to not tear your pocket to shreds
and to allow the Emerson wave feature to work smoothly.
I sold it for $142.50.
I fell for the hype, unless you're a martial artist, I see no reason to really own one.

The FOX 599 I sold:

I do have a Karambite which is fine for me.
Can hang on a chain with ease.

Just a quick comment, I have been researching the 599 for a long time reading posts and still wanted one even after reading all the different view points. My buddy had ordered one from "the only authorized retailer" and like many others began the wait. I planned to wait for his to arrive to make sure I wanted one. He got annoyed and canceled his order. I the waited for the karahawk to start shipping to see some reviews. I know the emerson is the gold standard and the price was not an issue, I live all my spydies and was excited for the karahawk. I may regret it when it arrives but I still just really like the shape and looks of the 599 better. I started checking eBay and Craigslist and the forums here for a used one to avoid the wait but had no luck.
I am in no way affiliated with any retailer but if you are interested in a 599 I ordered one from a website in Finland that said they had them in stock. Total price including shipping??? $114.93, with the euro exchange rate the knife was $93.96 and the shipping was $20.97. I figured I'd take the gamble; I ordered on 02/17/14 and paid through paypal. It is currently at my local post office and I imagine I will have it when I get home from work or worst case tomorrow. I will post some sort of review once it is in hand.

I do not know the rule on posting links so I will say that I google searched "fox 599 in stock" and the website was on the second page of results and was the 5th result with a .fi extension.

Or even a fixed blade could be possible?.

Fox also makes a very nice fixed blade karambit.

I have owned the Emerson combat karambit and have handled a Fox 599 karambit before. The fit and finish/overall build quality of the Fox blows the Emerson away. And best of all, it's substantially cheaper!!!
