Just bought an interesting knife, Fox knives U-fox. My knife is not black bladed, but bright. The heavily skeletonized handle is black.

I stropped the blade, it was somewhat sharp out of box but now it shaves. Lock is solid, no blade play whatsoever and easy to use. Opening was first a bit rough, but I put some oil in the mechanism and now it opens smoothly.

I did some food preparation with this knife and the curving blade cuts quite well, it is interesting how the curving tip kind of pulls the material in to the cut.
The ergonomics however could be better. The handle is angular and I would not use this for a long time. I dont like the tip down carry, allthough the clip is good, not too tight. Still I kind of like the knife and will carry it to find out what it can do. I think that the clip could be attached to the layard hole to get a tip up carry. I think I will also try a zip tie vawe.

Fox has many interesting models and no doupt I will take a look at them in the future.

Very unique knife, UFinn! AUS-9 steel? And is it my imagination or does the blade have a very slight hawkbill curve to it...?

Yes, very slight curve. Stropping it is not too difficult, I have made a stropping block of wood and thick leather, loaded with green paste. I just drew the blade in a slight angle across the edge of the block in a stropping motion. With any more curve it could have been a problem. This is almost a wharncliffe, a bit of hawkbill.

The handle is open pillar design. I think it is aluminium with rubber coating, it is grippier than anodized. I looked at some other FOX knives too and I was impressed how nice they were. There were some beautiful wood handled folders that I consider as my next buy. This is addicting and I must get rid of some knives first.

All the Fox knives I have owned have been stellar. I wish they would make a smaller version of the Deimos.

I agree, Fox makes some really nice knives. I own three of their products including the ATC tomahawk.

I think it would have been hilarious if they called it "Fox-U" instead... :D

Neat knife, OP! Maybe not my cup o' tea exactly, but interesting nonetheless. Thanks for sharing!

I took the clip off, it is attached through the plade pivot, I did it to try to attach it in the lanyard hole. Put the knife together and now it refuses to lock properly. What could have gone wrong? If it locks, it will lock so weakly that a slight tap will break it. Goddamn it. Guess I just voided the warranty so returning it is out of question.

if you put the clip under the pivot, its acting like a washer and not letting the lock engage enough of the blade. Put her back together without the clip at all and see if it still locks funny :) looks like a great knife by the way! except for the tip down carry :(

The clip was originally attached through the pivot. I put in a washer to compensate. It looks just like originally, expect missing the clip. I am baffled.

I have taken apart all my Cold steels and put them together and they work. I guess this is the last liner lock I will buy. :grumpy:

I took a look at the lock with a magnifying class. Looks like the angle in the machined surface of the blade is such that it can force the liner out. I still am wondering what could have happened, because before taking out the clip it worked better. Could be that there is too much oil in the mechanism and the friction between lock surfaces is lost.

One possibility is that I put the washers in the wrong way, because the liner does not go deep enough. On one side of the blade there is a nylon washer, on the other side a bronze washer. I could take the knife apart once more and reverse the washers. Wish me luck. Anyway looks like I have to treat the knife like a slip joint.

Edit. Followed my own advice and now it works as intended. I cleaned the lock surfaces and put the knife together so that the nylon washer is on the lock side. Now I can proceed to attach the clip again to get the tip up carry and wave action.

Actually I like it better without the clip, now the grip is better. The knife is very lightweight and small (closed lenght 115 mm, blade 80 mm) so it is easy to carry in the pocket. Maybe there is a smaller aftermarket clip that could be attached to the lanyard hole?

Still, it is a light duty knife. The lock has the tendency to slip. Shame, since it is otherwise a nice product.
