Hey guys,

I cant remember the last time I posted on here. I have been looking at knives recently, after a stint of wanting to decrease my collection. I had a bunch of crap knives that I sold off. I also had a TOPS steel eagle and a TOPS CAT. I sold the eagle, still have the cat...I love that little knife. I recently purchased 2 gerber big rocks for heavy field use (doing biological research) and both have been used very heavily and have stood up very well to cutting and chopping. I am satisfied with these as general field tools. I also purchased a gerber folding gator for my cousin for his birthday. I purchased a gerber obsidian? as a random impulse buy, because my girlfriend wanted a smaller folder to use in the field. She has not yet used it lol. I practice american kenpo, and have been looking at karambits as well. I have an emerson folding karambit that I have had for a while, but I have been wanting a fixed blade karambit....which thus brings me to my questions. I saw the FOX karambit and thought it was pretty cool. I picked one up for a hefty 215. It is made of n690 steel. I do not know much about this steel or this company, but the few reviews I have been able to find have been good. So...

What do you guys think about FOX knives and this n690 steel? Is it worth the 215 price tag?

I really wanted to grab a hossom/dionaldo karambit, but they are apparently not in production. I missed one on ebay by a couple of hours.

Thanks guys!!

I just bought the FOX-479 Karambit today, I am still waitting for it ....

This is going to be my first Fox so ... I do not know anything about the brand ...

Where did you purchase it from? I got mine from michigan knives. I did not see the 479 when I was looking. I purchased the 636. It is a bit large, but I have large hands, and I like it quite a bit.

I have some Fox knives, well made and reliable. About the N960 steel I've heard that is the same steel used for the ER knives so it's pretty good.

Fox has been manufacturing a few knives for American companies, for example, the Hossom designs for both Ontario and Spyderco. N690 is a very good steel. I have 3 Extrema Ratio folders with it, one of which I've had long enough to give it a good workout.

The Fox karambits were designed by Rich Derespina and have his logo on them, although none of the ad copy I've seen credits him.

My EDC for a while has been a TOPS CQT Thunder Hawke which is made by Fox of Italy.I'm very pleased .The knife couldn't have better fit and finish, excellent design and excellent materials .I got it to test the N690 steel which I find to be very good similar to 154CM or CPM154.
As for the price lokk around a bit you might find a better deal.
