Its was snowing here yesterday, a lot

I wanted to made a survival shelter whit the Fox Parang Bushcraft

What I want is to build a sort of A frame, in few words this mean that I need to cut down a bunch of woods, big and small branches, in few time, my goal is in fact to made an emergency shelter in less than 15 minutes. Im not looking for the coolest or the best shelter ever, I just want to see how much time and effort I could spend for a primitive, emergency shelter in these conditions.
This will be the main branch of the A frame

Few cuts, and the main wood of the shelter is down

Putting the main branch between two trees

Now lets to add more branches

Thats what I made in 15 minutes (including time for the pics). Its not too much, in fact this place lacks at all for pines or others evergreen trees. Anyway the main structure its ready, now its would be just matter to add branches more and more, I calculate another 30 minutes to complete the shelter.
Im really glad about the Fox Parang, his cutting efficiency on chopping branches and woods its just great, Ill give it a good 9,5/10

About the handle comfort, I used gloves this time, this way the handle its really efficient and comfortable. Ill give it 9,0/10 (using gloves) for the moment, but my test its non complete.
Lets continue, after the emergency shelter of yesterday, today I want to test the cutting efficiency and the handle comfort of the Fox Parang Bushcraft in some more precise job, so Ill do a tent peg

The cutting efficiency its good also in these small jobs. The forwarded balance of the knife didnt help, anyway doing a tent peg its fairly easy. Ill give a score of 8,5/10 for cutting efficiency (precise tasks), and a score of 8,0/10 for the handle comfort (naked hands).
Final score:
- 18,5/20 (chopping branches, using gloves)
- 16,5/20 (precise tasks, naked hands)
What about the edge retention? I think its fairly good

A note on the sheath, is well made and allows for a lot of carrying options

But a minus its the diagonal strap, which is prone to easily be cut by the blade

Conclusions: the Fox Parang Bushcraft its a great survival knife, whit a huge cutting efficiency on woods and a fairly comfortable handle

I didnt suggest the Fox Parang Bushcraft as a all-around knife, i.e. the Woodlore or similar bushcraft knives; instead, is a knife which allows you to build an emergency shelter in few time without a huge effort, and you may perform more precise jobs too. For hiking, I suggest to carry the Fox Parang Bushcraft in combination with a multitool like the Victorinox Huntsman (or similar), this way you will cover all your needs I guess

Ciao,
Alfredo
