If any of you guys are from Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin, Southern Michigan, Northern Indiana, etc, I thought I might put out a little invitation to you!
It will be July 19th.
For the last three years, a knife collector/enthusiast has put on a two day/1 night "get together" of knife makers/collectors/enthusuiasts and otherwise trouble makers, up on the Fox River out west and North of Chicago. It's in a great setting along the Fox River in a park-like setting. I don't drink, myself, but I'll bet there are those of you who might enjoy some cold tap brew, at least two roasted hogs, all kinds of other food and frolic, not to mention about 150-200 people/makers/collectors/bikers and hot chicks hangin' out and talking about KNIVES!!!
We'll have a power hammer there this year, as well as forging demos, little instruction demos about cord wrap, inlay, scrimshaw, etc., etc., etc.
Peter Martin will be forging a billet of Damascus, Jerry Rados, maybe with a little back up help from yours truly, will be forging a blade from the billet, I believe Michael Kanter (Adam Michael Knives) will be grinding the blade out, hardening and doing a quick on-site temper, a little file work, etching, cord warp, etc. all in the same day.
There are no real accomodations, but plenty of room to toss up a tent to make the best of the weekend.
A little previous notice is appreciated so plenty of food is available.
It has been a complete blast each and every year.
Hope some of you can make it!!

Thanks for posting this Karl! Not sure why I havent before. If anyone is up in the area, please do stop by,as Karl said,it's been a blast the last 3 years and there's no reason why this one won't be the same.

Thanks
Rob

mapquest 906 porten road mchenry Il 60051....should get ya there!

Maybe another year Karl. I'm sure it will be great but my calendar is full up and no way Phyllis will let me run to another show lol. Who knows what another year may bring

I went to Rob's Knife Rendezvous last year and decided right then that I would make it to the next one for sure.

Great atmosphere, a lot of maker's and knife enthusiast's, great food, a beautiful setting on the Fox river, and a lot to see and learn.

My hats off to Rob. Here's a guy that is selflessly doing something to promote this "hobby " of ours.

It's an annual event that I would encourage you to find the time to attend and participate in.

Paul

Sounds like a great event Rob and it would be cool to meet up with you again. Please give us an earlier heads-up next year. Have a blast all!

Roger

Is this a kid friendly atmosphere?

Yes. Kid appropriate.
Kids were there last year and they seemed to have a good time.

If you send me an e-mail I'd be happy to get back to you on the phone and
answer any particulars you may have or maybe direct you to Rob if he has the
time.

I'm sure that Rob is pretty busy this week getting ready for every one.
Rob roasts a pig ( or 2 ) for the event and has to pull and all nighter Friday to
have the pig done for Saturday. I may have to offer "moral support" with a case
of beer and a late night visit!

Paul

thanks Paul.Yep it's kid friendly, and as Paul said..the kids usually get quite a kick out of it.They were even more interested in Mark Nevling's wife Afeelia's glass bead making(which is pretty darn cool in it's own right).

thanks

I grew up on the Fox River in Northern Illinois, and "visiting family" would be a good excuse to travel cross-country and look at knives for an afternoon.

But Illinois in July?!? :D

Have fun. It really does sound like a good time.

Well, wife and I just getting into custom knives. Actually making our firsts right now. Really quite interested in going, just so much to do getting house on market. Hope to be able to make it!

Mike

Thanks for the info Karl. I am afraid I wont be able to make it though. Previous commitments

Take some pics and give us a report when you get back!

But Bob, it's a moist heat! What fun is mid 90's in temp without mid 90's in % humidity???;):D

I'm gonna try to make it... just to keep Danbo in line. Dirty job, but someone's gotta do it.

Hi,

Can anyone please give me directions or an address that I can mapquest? Thanks in advance!

Joe

LOL, I remember it well.

For a perfect hell, add in a head-to-toe case of poison ivy. :D

BTW, Sheridan is the Fox River town where I'm from.
