Dave I'm the only one out of eleven that had the luck to draw one with a bad hardening. Those things happen and it is being fixed courtesy of Art and HI. I was gonna take it apart and get rid of what I consider the ugly so called habaki bolster nanyway. I was fortunate enough to acquire another one and I'm going to take it apart and do it the same way later on.
I wouldn't hesitate on this one if I needed another!!!!:D

I can't afford one of those any way but I can't see what is ugly about any of this khuk.:)

Me either Pappy. To me this is the most beautiful kukri that HI has produced with maybe the exception of the Berk Special, but I haven't seen one of those up close and personal.:)

Boy, someone didn't waist any time. I wonder why their doing this?

To make money, no doubt.
Their starting bid is $175., and they could have gotten a rusted one from Bill here at $145, and sell it as brand new, and gotten to use it some too.

They probably are also wondering how high the auction will go, too.

Gator; did you take a pic of the actual one for sale, or of yours so he could put a picture up of the type of khuk?

I dunno. I just don't like people buying things up simply to make profit. If you can't use it... please, leave it there for someone else to buy at a lower price.

I was wondering about the reason for that Habaki bolster myself, but read recently that its purpose on Japanese swords is to provide a friction fit of the sword into the scabbard. That is, the mouth of the scabbard is a friction fit on the bolster rather than the blade.

This is the way it works on most of my HI scabbards, and also the Sarki Shop scabbard I got this summer. When you want the khuk retained in the scabbard, just push the bolster down into the scabbard mouth.

However, none of the old khuks had this feature. Maybe the old kamis didn't know about the habaki, or maybe it doesn't work as well as the Japanese think it does. Or, maybe it works but the kamis thought it didn't look very good.

No its mine, i had to make a choice on what items i could live without to fix car, my fox folly and 1 of my swords are what fell sadly into that place.

Broken timing belt was to expensive. :grumpy:

Oh, I see... that's too bad :(
overspending is something that ails us all I suppose...

by the by, that's a fine sword! I was drooling over it earlier. A guy here at work is supposed to be getting the Last Legends version of a bastard sword sometime this week.. not sure excactly on the model... but I can't wait to see it in person.

I only wish I could afford one like it, or like the one you have up for auction.

Though, they do seem to be a bit on the heavy side imo. Especially with a huge fuller like that.

Trying to figure out if I can replacetiming belt myself on my truck right now. I'm 12-13K past suggested replacement time by factory.

Think whether i do it msyelf, or pay someone, either way I'm not going to be able to pay for sister's books(college), like I had planned. Luckily she got full time job. Knkow how it stinks though.

Replacing a timing belt is much less expensive than fixing your engine if the timing belt breaks. Or so I've heard.

I took pix of my own FF. I have no idea who's selling his FF using my pic, at least nobody told me they'd use my picture for ebay... I do get "permission requests" to use my pix for ebay sales from time to time, but not for in this case. I don't really mind, one time thing anyways.

you might consider using a program that can invisibly 'watermark' your images

or use one of the watermark techniques you can do by hand

basicly just hiding a graphic or text in the image
in a way that only you can find it easily.

Some techniques are very persistant,
some disappear if you resize or therwise process the image.

It's generally cheaper to replace the belt, but often not by too much. It just depends on if you have an interference engine or not. If it is, when timing belt goes valves don't move out of the way and get hit by the pistons, involving everything from head work to replace pistons, to possibly a full rebuild/replace of engine(on my Renault it was just $150 or so to get head fixed up, then my dad replaced it in driveway). If you have non interference engine, just means that when your belt dies, you get it towed to shop, and have the belt replaced then. So you add cost of towing.

What I'm hoping is that I can do it myself, and save even more money.

Then when I get the $170 for the performance cam I just found today, i can do it again myself cuz I'll already know how to, and get more power out of the deal that time. ;)
