I absolutely love my FF. She's a monster, no doubt about it, but the graceful curve of the mune and handle makes my day.

Thanks Uncle!

Which brings me to another point. Looking at some vintage kukri's, I notice that they are thinner and more curved in terms of the handle. Current offerings seem to have a straight handle.

Antique Sirupati's from John P's article are just incredible (forgive the broken grammar, i'm real sleepy) ;)

Has HI considered doing more kukri's along the lines of more historical examples? True, they wouldn't be as tough, but they would make fine, weapons' grade stuffs. They would also be more expensive due to the extra work on them.

I'd love to pick up a Berk Special, but it's out of the price range right now...

hopefully i'm not stepping on any toes! Anyone else interested in the trend of accurate historical reproductions?

p.s if that FF 18" comes up, count me in for a wood handled version. WHO'S WITH ME!!!

Poor fellows, they've finally succumbed to the acute phase of HIKV*. Absolutely no hope left for them now.

I'm game for an 18" wood handled FF. The biggun was beautiful but too much of a superchopper for me to give much use. I need to pick up a 14" BDC one of these days too. :)

I think that you would have to do more then have the Kamis cut a couple of inches on the length to make sure that it didn't still fall into the monster category. The thickness would have to be delt with. Mine is just about as thick as my 25" AK. I would like to have one with the shape or the Fox with the build of a Chit. If that makes any sense. I have two 20" AKs one by Sher and one villager the Fox is slightly heavier then the one by Sher and a few ounces less then the villager. As it stands I think that it would turn out more along the lines of a heavy 18" AK. Which most people think is a huge heavy beast. Just my 2 cents, mind you.

Yea, too heavy. I'd love to see one exactly the same style, esp. the smaller handle and in the 16 to 18 inch length. That would be fantastic. Actually the big one would have been cool too if they could have stuck with the pound and a half weight as originally planned and not doubled it.

i would have to agree. heck my wrist hurts right now. but than to support a thinner khuk, i think that there would have to be the understanding that you couldn't go out and cut down that large concrete pillar.

Dave, the Malla is a historic style although with a straight handle. Kumar made some repros of Khukuris a museum, they were sold on the forum a month or so ago.

One of the problems in dealing with the kamis is that they have minds (and opions) of they're own. Nothing HI sells is realy built to a standard like we're used to from mass production. The advantage is lots of variation and individual character in each piece, the disadvantage is the uncertainty and variation in quality in things you order sight unseen.
Of course Uncle Bill has a great warrenty and replacement policy. If something is too heavey/light, or the handle is too thin/thick or long/short, then you can email Uncle Bill and arrange an exchange.

If you're looking for a light Khukuri, try the Kobra. I hear the Gelbu Specialis very light too.

The Big Question is whether you would buy a 17"-18" Foxy Folly if it was the Cherokee Special II or another name and not made by Himalayan Imports?
Bill said to bug him if he got to feeling better and I have a feeling that may be a while.:(
I'm working on the details now by e-mail now so if anyone is interested you will need to go over to the other khukuri forum at www.knifeforums.com
I'm not bailing ship, but I want one of these kukris and I'm not getting any younger myself.
HollowDweller seems to be pretty high on the new company so I'm willing to give them a chance.
Getting a more curved handle may be the drizzlin sheetz though. :( :grumpy:

Yvsa,

I'd be interested. Caveat though. I only have one of their knives. Maybe I just got the luck of the draw. However if all are this nicely hardened/sharpened it would be great.

Hi Red,

I'm not really looking out for anything lighter, I've always like the middle of the road in terms of weight. If not a little heavy.

Looking over John Powells' articles, I notice that the handles appear to be stubbier and seem to follow the shape of the blade. Now one can argue that N.A hands are bigger and the such!

Of course you are right that it is up to the kami who makes them.
