The FF handles like a feather- really light feel. What a beauty! This is going to become a "beater" though.
Thinner than most, rings like a bell.

The 25" GS I already like better than the 25" Malla. Handle was unfinished; Ballistol® now. Like a golden oak...
Unfinished saatistal? Not sure.

I don't know about cutting bamboo with it :foot: but I hacked up a box and tired my arm. This one has a more sword-like feel &
pokes holes with authority.

Still missing the daily deals, but feeling a khuk fix that should last awhile.

Wow. Thanks for the good report from the field! Outstanding khukuris and beautiful pictures. Thanks Mike.

aww Mike, you shouldn't have. i'll e-mail you address:D
great blades  I'm getting that familar itch in my hand when i NEED to get a new khuk. hmmm, now how to hide it from the fiance'.

Jake

Mike, you are the only one I know of with a stag 14" BDC, and every time I see it I start drooling! Great pics and nice knives.

Thanks for sharing.

Norm

Hey Ad Astra,
Do you think your gelbu would be stout enough for bamboo? Do you think they made it thicker at the spine, maybe, than the first one?
Ill be getting my #2 soon, so Ill try to send you some pics and we can compare.
God Loves the Gelbu special!
(me too)
I think Im going to have mine rebuilt as a weapon-only khukuri, but the family ties will remain.

Danny, this is the only GS I have, so I'm not sure, but it seems like it isn't "lightened" in the back very much like they usually are. It is, some- you can see it- but maybe they left the next 2 thicker in the back due to your "field testing". :D Need to find those pix I posted for you of the first one.

I thought GS's were kinda like Ang Khola- but the "lightening" running the whole back length. It is, but just a little.

Man alive, if you can swing this hard enough to bend it, you're in pretty good shape. I'm 6 foot something and I don't think I could damage it. I didn't see the video but even a sideways whack, I'm not sure.

The wood is unlike any khukuri I have... I like it.

The 25" khukuri has its place. If you carry any khuk, people call it a sword, so you may as well carry one that looks the part.

ah, thanks Norm. Wish you'd post more pix of your trove. Was that you that snagged the Karam 20" WWII? Just wondering. Another beauty.

and Jake? Are you registered at Himalayan Imports? :p

I got mine today and its beautiful. The handle is big and made of a white wood.
I dont know what it is. IT feels heavier than the first one, but Im not sure.

thats not my muscles. Thats Budo. I am not in good shape, I dont work out.
Im a lazy bastard.
But, when you swing your sword using taijutsu, the power of the body in motion, it doesnt matter if you are weak, that blade is going to move with power.

So is the new one thicker at the spine?

Danny, not sure what taijutsu is, but I picked a couple of oak Bokkens and want to learn an edged weapons martial art this winter. Not kendo... another one. Budo is your practice, right? And what's Azis teach?

To get this GS moving fast with a skill would be something. The guys in your video looked like they knew what they were doing, but weren't they applying moves they already knew to a different style of weapon? I want to learn from the ground up.

Taijutsu is the movement of the body in combat.

The Bujinkan is a collection of nine ancient schools of combat. 5 of ninjutsu and 4 regualr samurai budo. They are all very old and come from the time of the warring states. That means that the art was perfected on the battlefield, real fighting to the death with all kinds of weapons. Some of the schools are more than 1,000 years old and can trace their lineage back to ancient China's bloody battlefields. Real martial arts use weapons, all kinds of weapons, not just edged weapons. Sticks, guns, poison, you name it.

To get this GS moving fast with a skill would be something
Yes it would, but not necessary in a fight. Correct movement is better than fast movement.

We (try to) learn to move correctly no matter what weapon or situation. Think about it this way: If what you have learned CAN'T be applied to any kind of weapon, what the hell good is it? If you join the Bujinkan, you will start from the ground up and you won't regret it, you have my word.

Many thanks, Noah.

I finally upgraded my camera. The new one, Panasonic Lumix FZ20, takes great shots. Consumer reports said nice things and when the FZ30 came out, the price dropped.

Beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing Mike.

Fuller Family.....I got one of those! :D

Add the YCS and fullsize FF to it...would make quite a lineup!

Daniel, Yes, the YCS would definitely fit in nicely there. What size is the Foxy Folly you mentioned? I've obviously got the newest version 17"oal. It would be pretty sweet to apply the FF lines to a larger blade.

mike

The Foxy Folly started out as a 22" blade in the first place.

22"!!! Wow, I can only imagine a kuk that size, with fullers like that. I imagine that it would still be quite light and fast, even for a long blade. Maybe thicken up the spine a little, to help against flex from the extra length. My imagination is dreaming of a very formidable kuk.
