Or should we call it the "Faux Folly" on account of the brass fittings and habaki bolster?
This thing is light. I mean, deceptively light. The fullers work. The point of balance is only a few inches forward of the bolster and the blade doesn't "hang" at all. Very quick in the hand, and you can snap it from the wrist without any strain. The edge is indeed fully convexed and fairly sharp. I'm looking forward to how it performs when the edge is fully sharpened.
The grip is nice and wide. I won't have any problems with this one. Those with smaller hands may have to thin theirs down a bit if they're all going to be this size.
Scabbard fit suits me fine. Despite the habaki bolster the scabbard grips the blade a bit. It comes out easily enough but I can shake it upside-down without losing it. (The chakma is another matter, but chakma-to-scabbard fit is not a deal-breaker for me.)
The karda and chakma are sized for the khuk like they normally are. The handles are a bit small for me. The karda had a mild case of the Black Dots near the tip.
The chandan looks great on all the handles. Some love it, some hate it. I haven't had any issues with mine and it does look good so I ain't complaining. I figured that if it made it out of Reno without cracking, there would be no further issues when it arrived here. I'll keep it oiled just in case.
The Yvsa Receipt Inspection went without incident, although I have to admit that I was a little nervous performing it. The blade seems almost too light to be sturdy.
How about some pics?
Foxy Folly, karda/chakma, scabbard, and name tag that was taped to the handle.
Dig those fullers. They match up perfectly on the spine.
The ferric etch was taking too long so I got lazy and pulled a rust remover etch. This was the result. Note the very deep hardening in the sweet spot and how the hardened zone runs right up to the tip.
I don't forsee any work for it over the weekend so barring any unforeseen emergencies, sea trials will begin next week.
That little name tag is a combination of English and Devengari. It reads "17" Foxy (something) 686 (something)."
