iw been reading the forums now for almoust a year i think and i got myself a 12" ak... but the foxy folly is just one of the moust beuteful blades i have ever seen, but what i was wondering before i get myself one is, how good is it?

becose i have never seen anyone recomend it, but at the same time i havent seen anyone say anything bad about it. so is there anyone that have one that can tell me what they are like? i want blades that i can use, but i probebly wont be doing much heavy chopping. i just want to be abel to if i ever need to ^^

I myself don't have one, but now that the search feature has been turned back on for Basic Members, searh this forum and I think you will find that many people think very highly of the Foxy Folly...

I've posted it before, but they are like this:

By the way I cut up that tree over several days so that's why some of the pics are SNOWY

I've had a Bura FF for over 2 years now, and I think it's great. The wide, thin blade sings as it strikes and those wide fullers are just beautiful. I'd say the FF is better for brush clearing and limbing but it chops decently well considering its weight. A dedicated chopper like an AK or Ganga Ram will do heavy chopping better than the FF, but the FF is more versatile.

Ditto on what Tychoseven said. My FF will go thru a 6" maple before you know it.
Mine wears the traditional handle, anyone have a comparison between old & new?

well mine is the same size and weight as my Ganga Ram 17" 23oz but it chops about as good as ganga but it is easier o the arm.

It is thinner but the width of the blade at the point where it usually impacts the wood is very wide so it sort of makes up for the thinness if I'm making any sense.

Sure it's comparatively thin but the wide blade gives it enough weight for good momentum. That's an efficient combination.

I dunno. The FF I sold is pretty number but the AK just does it for me. I like thick/heavy stuff.

well i wouldnt know as i only have a small ak, but my guess would be that i would like the thinner more... but then again that might change as soon as i get one of the heavy ones i my hands ;)

The Foxy's Folly has gone through more incarnations trying to get it just right than most any other HI blade I can think of.
The present 17" or so and about 24-28 oz. FF is the final incarnation. There were at least 3 or more versions and varaitions that I can think of.
The very first ones were 20+ inches and in the 40+-50+ oz range. Think felling ax with this one!;) That version was way heavier than most here wanted so generation 2 was tried. A very few came out that were 21+ inches and about 28 oz. (My Favorite)! Then the attempt at a shorter 17", 24 oz version that we see today.
I am sure there were more subtle variations than the three I remember and own. The latest version is the easiest to handle and pack, but some of those early versions were way cool!:D
Here are a couple shots of my three versions of the FF.
Horn is the 20 1/2" 52 oz.
Chandan is 21 9/16" 28 oz.
Kauri wood 17 1/2" 24 oz.

Those top two look similar to the Berk Special as far as blade shape. The bottom one looks more Ganga Ramesque.

I did a search to see if I could dig up some old pics from the archives. Most of the links are gone. But the old threads are great to learn of the development and multiple incarnations like the Foxy Fighter.

It is hard to find any pictures in the old threads. Seems people clean them for saved space over time.
Here is a shot of my Berk Special next to the three Folly's and two variations on the YCS. Far right one is one of the early Sanu YCS's. One of my favorite HI blades to this day. Followed by the Long light Chandan handled FF.
I do love fat fullered blades!;)
Laying these out reminded me that my heavy horn handled FF is the only HI I have ever gotten that is totally free of any markings. Not even the HI logo at the bend. Must have been designed sterile for those covert wood cutting ops. HeHe

That Sanu YCS is very nice. Very different fullers than my recent YCS by Vim. My Dui Chirra is similar.

I also like the lack of cho creep and traditional bolsters on the earlier models.

Hey Archangel love that long one on the far left of that photo.

Beautiful shape and fullers.

I don't have a Foxy yet...well I have one on the way. But here is a comparison of my Dui Chirra and YCS.
