Gang, I'm on my sis-in-law's computer and I won't be back up and running for at least another week, maybe a few days longer.
But I wanted to make a couple of posts so we ran up here so I could do so.
Foxy's Follie. A Pic can be found here.
First of all 37 ounces works out to 2 5/16s pound. I agree that's a pretty heavy khuk, but we knew this one was gonna be big.
And it feels really blade heavy, but that's something I can take in stride as this one should be the Epitome of ALL Choppers!!!!!!!
My first thought upon unsheathing it was, "YES!!!! This is what a KHUKURI Should Look Like!!!!
Don't let the pic fool you. That's just the angle Bill photographed it at.
The handle does have a nice curve to it, although a gentle one, it's enough to make the khuk appear as a full flowing arc. I Likey!!!!
I placed it spine down on my computer desk and rocked it from the tip to as far back as I could on the handle.
It makes a full arc with about the same amount of steel to desk contact all along the spine.
The edge shape is perfectly formed and with the fullers and the full curve of the spine it is one of the most beautiful khuks I have Ever Seen!!!!
This is what I Think a khuk should look like!!!!
It also reminds me of the one the Ghorka is seen inspecting the edge on in one of the more common pix.
Did I say, "I Likey?!?!?!?"
It has a little cho creep, but nothing to be alarmed about, I would've liked it back about an eighth of an inch, but it's much better than those that have two inches between the bolster and the cho!!!!
Gang, the only things that I am disappointed about is the lack of a convex edge up to the first fuller and the fact that it came absolutely DULL!!!!
I mean the edge is about a 1/32" wide!!!! BUT, this khuk has the longest sweet spot I've ever seen!!!! and the edge is HARD!!!!
I've been feeling poorly the last few days off and on again, but when I get a chance and am feeling well enough to run my belt sander this khuk is getting at least a convex edge even if I can't get it clear up to the fuller.
The fullers are deep and very well executed!!!! Bura really outdid himself on this khuk!!!!
Anyone who has signed up for this khuk will Not Be Disappointed IMO!!!!
Now if this was a 17" to 18" khuk I would have to say it would be perfectly ideal for most of us.
I didn't take the time to put my mic's to the spine, but it's about 5/16" with a nice distal taper down to 1/4" at the tip.
The beautiful fullers are what makes this khuk light enough to handle for a lot of us and I can only imagine what it would be like it my favorite length of 18 inches.
I also got to thinking that since this is Foxy's design that he should get the very first one although I'm very happy to have seen it first. So Foxy if you want this one let me know here and e-mail Bill to get my phone number as I won't have e-mail for awhile. Then give me a call and I will send it on to you.
I will wait until the next batch arrives, and hope for a slightly shorter and lighter one if I have to.
I will check back here in a few days if possible or will await your call.
I hope this is enough to satisfy y'all's questions and apologise if it isn't.
It's hell being without a computer!!!!
:grumpy:
Oh, If I recall correctly the price on these was $175.00....
